Getting closer

Well, as you have noticed I havent raced yet this year and thats because I am working on body/paint/rollbar/engine/trans. I just got my roll bar installed by RMS Motorsports and Rene did an awesome job. I got the paint stripped and most of the crude bodywork done. I a couple of weeks she goes off to be painted and then I got a new motor and trans. in the works, so stay tuned. . Here are some pics of the roll bar.

Well, when it rains, it poors. Many of you may remember all the trouble I went through with getting my 9" made for my duece. Well, the other day I pulled my axles out to work on my rear brakes and found two different axles with two different bearings and one of the axles was cut with looks to be a pnuematic cut off wheel because the end was black/blue and filed down. Fing hacks! So, worried I took my housing and axles down to a reputable rearend shop and had everything checked out. Found out the housing ends were welded crooked, thus causing major bearing load and robbing horsepower, not to mention none of the brackets were square, which I knew about that. Long story short, I ended up having to buy a new housing and one new axle. This time, I'm doing the brackets myself and Currie will shorten and weld the new axle housing ends and I will put everything else on myself. I bought a Comp. engineering chromoly fabricated housing and also switched from a locker to a full lightened spool. This is going to shed about 20-25lbs off total weight and about 8lbs of rotational weight, plus I will have straight axles this time. That should help make up some time in the 1/4. I also am ditching the ford 8.8 brakes and got matching Aerospace comp. racing rear brakes and master cylinder. This will again shed off alot of weight. After I get the car rolling- next week, it goes off to the bodyshop. And while at the bodyshop, I will be placing an order for another go fast goody, but you will have to wait for that. Here's a pic of the new housing I just got today. Alot of headaches, but in the end it will be done right and worth it. I'll post pics of the progress so stay tuned. I'm hoping to make some runs by the end of this summer.

Ok, my dad and I designed some new brackets from CAD program and had them
lazer cut out. These are the first prototypes and are cut out of 1/8" mild steel for a test fit. I checked the fit and it's perfect. Unlike my old brackets we made more holes to be able to adjust the instant center-IC. The stock location is not ideal to say the least. The final brackets will be cut out of 3/16" chromoly. My rearend should be complete by the end of this coming week. I'll post some pics of the final product. Here's some pics of the brackets.

Well, looks like your son knows how to handle a fast machine. It won't be long before he's driving and you know what that means. A great excuse to tell the wife that you need new and improved parts for the racecar. Hope to see you out soon.

It doesn't look like my car will be ready for the June race, but I will be there watching. Come by and say hi. I'll be around all the rotary cars. Shouldn't be too hard to miss a white boy in the mix. LOL
