Clutch replacement ideas?

Hey there, just came back from the track down here in Napierville, and 2-3 runs down the road, my clutch was smoking like a sob, i don't know if it was caused by oil dripping onto the clutch disc or what, I just know I pratically had more smoke coming out of the engine bay than from the tires.

I was wondering since its obvious that I toasted this one, towards which one I should go. I had a ACT street/strip full organic disc, with a ACT streetlite flywheel.

I was thinking of getting a Exedy maybe single disc, because I don't want to have to rev to 3 k for it to disengage, like the triple disc one. I like drag racing but its a hobby more than a full time job for me.

So anyways, I have just about 400rhwp with a Gt35R pushing 1 bar.

I was wondering what you guys would suggest.

So what are my options?

Nobody wants to share here?

I was also wondering what would be my options if I stay with ACT?

What do you guys use on the strip?

act 6 puck has proven to handle the track well. Myself and others on here have ran 500, 600rwhp on one. Best bang for the buck IMO.

The act 6 sprung puck/ HD PP should be fine. If you get the Extreme PP the pedal pressure is a little bit heavier... Go with the HD, you 'll be happy with it.

I had the CF. It can handle anything the twins can throw at it. Once 'you go single and hit 450rwhp and above, it starts to slip.

my brand new Dual Friction ate **** at 15psi (FC) with less than 300 miles. It was toast, don't even bother with it.

Okay cool. Thanks for the info about the centerforce. Questiont tho, 6 puck solid or 6 puck sprung?

And also, does anyone know a place near NY that hold them in stock? I'd kinda need it this week before snow starts falling.

we'll just to give you guys an update, I did listen to you guys and installed a 6 puck ceramic disc w/ my extreme pressure plate, resurfaced the flywheel and pressure plate, and went to the track.

Pulled off a 11.46 @ 122 mph w/ 1.71 60ft on Et streets radials. I've never had so much ease pulling in one gear after the other. That disc brakes that engine like mad.

Problem I had was that when I installed the tranny back on the car, for some reason the reverse was stuck on, and the shifter looked to be in neutral position but I couldnt move it. we took out the tail of the tranny, and when we put it back on, from underneat we could tell that the forks were kind of going either too far, or pushing a second fork at the same time.

Anyways, went down to the track, pulled that 11.46 on the third run, and then the tranny couldnt take it, started clunking like another gear was trying to hop on while I was in 2nd. Managed to take the car back home, and parked it for the season.

Now my next project is going to be to find out whats up with the transmission. Obviously I toasted some sincros or forks.

I was wondering whats a good replacement, without going the whole nine yard with a 4k$ t-56 build or something like that.

Are the 99spec + transmission any good?

Oh and btw, I had a 3.90 final gear, and since I installed it (burned my 4.10) I like the feeling that the car just kind of grips the road without spinning like the 4.10 did.

Thanks

If you're on a budget and don't want to spend big $ on a Liberty or g-force try a doug nash.I've known a few racers who use then with very good results and you can use them on the street also.Another route will be to have your trany work on by a professional but I think is cheaper to call kilo racing in florida and he works on TII trany and set them up with a v-gate shifter and the gears go in smooth even on high rpm. There is a guy that owns a shop in PA he's shop is Negro Racing and he's a g-force distributor and Once or twice a year he has specials on G-force brand new trany with shifter built to your spec for $3500.I would google Kilo or Negro and call them.Negro is a real decent guy and knows alot about transmissions and who knows might have a used one for a good price.I hope this info helps you out.Remember one thing about drag racing the weakest link is going to give you problems.Example it seems you have a good motor the clutch went out,now the trany you know what's next your rear end unless you have a good rear end set up.I've learned the hard way even though we get impatient is better to wait and buy the good parts from day one even if the project takes longer.Good luck.
