ABS: Keep or remove

The ABS on my FD doesn't currently work. I had a short in the system somewhere causing the starter to engage and fire up the car, long story. I ended up pulling the fuse and forgetting about it. I'm now thinking about getting rid of the system all together but wanted to get some other drag racers opinions.

Here are the pros and cons of getting rid of it.

Cons:
Safety

Pros:
Weight (not sure how much, but it looks decently heavy)
Simplified wiring
Cleaner, more spacious engine bay

The car is at the track more and more and seeing less street time each year. What do you think? Find the short and fix it or ditch it?

It you decided to ditch it keep me in mind as I want to put mine back in as I have been driving my car more and more on the road. Maybe we could swap line setups and the pump for a bit of cash.

Main reason for me wanting to go back to ABS is for the dumbass drivers around where I live and the roads having a lot of gravel on them at intersections.

Ive binned mine for about 2 years now, and I daily drive it. Ive never noticed it wasnt there except in the snow. It only costed about 80 bucks for new brake lines from autozone and a brake bias controller from summit

Mine blew a fuse one day and the car felt terrible when trying to stop. The tires kept grabbing and just didn't feel right. I say fix it, but if you're already driving without it, you know if it's something you're alright living without

Had a brake leak for a year. Finally took it to mazda today to find the leak. Turned out its the abs. They wanted 3k to fix. I lol'd. I deleted it today and put wilwood valve on. Love it. So much space there and the thing is pretty heavy.

haha, yeh i know people get all **** about these driver assist units, abs isnt on every car out there and everyone else seems to be able to drive fine without it.

To me a real car is a car that you have to be able to control yourself, so if you expect to have your *** saved from a driver assist computer designed program , well then get your *** out of a sports car and buy a volvo or some **** like that, cotton wooled nanny state hippy bastards
Driver assist electronics belong in your missus draw beside the bed that power up the ***** units that allow us to go watch more football ohh yehh

Thats a real ignorant way of looking at safety features.

leave it to the aussie! I think there's a reason that vehicles have gotten faster over the years on the tracks, using different driver assists and what-not. They serve a purpose, but if you're mainly dragging it, ditch it.

ahhh but the greatest class of all seems to keep going faster with or without driver assists, F1 fellas
My thoughts and experience is if a driver becomes educated to rely on any form of driver assist, it makes them a lazy driver , nothing beats the mindset and skill of a driver who is totally skilled at being able to control their car just as good as the switched off brain driver who just puts their foot down and asks the computer to drive and brake for them, what happens to the swithed off driver when a sensor fails or a fuse blows CRASH and the reply would be i put my foot down but the "computer" didn't save me

Its all good fellas, im not hear to preach anything or start a dick sword fight over the ins an outs of driver "AIDS", so just crack a beer and relax

Good point.

My DD is an 87 FC, no power anything except steering. I've been driving the car that seems like forever and i've never had a problem. I think i'll be ok in a car that sees so little street time.

I been lazy but I'm getting rid of mine too. Last time I stopped really quick, the tires slid so mine didn't work to well anyway ....ABS is great for the distracted soccer moms that jam on the brakes at the last second so the abs computer has take over to keep the over reacting mom from sliding into something....Those that can't stop fast with out just slamming the pedal to the floor then they should prolly keep thiers intact haha
