it has been said that a good machine shop can make anything,
therefore why would it be sooooooo hard to make a larger displacement 2 rotor motor.
larger, wider, housings with larger rotors= higer displacement.
i understand this is VERY complicated task, but while they are at it, they could machine everything from aluminum and save alot of weight.
why has mazda never made a "larger" engine?
ok im done!!!!!!!!!!!

sure it could be done but you better be ready for a really
really big bill, some of the equipment that mazda is using
is worth more than all the machines in the average
machine shop, i seen somewhere what the value of the
equipment to make the rotor housings, and it was out of this world for cost..

Yes thats an almost tru statement that almost anything can be made in a machine shop. But a lot of the parts in the motors arent made in a machine shop or cant be created with machine shop processes. You need a foundery to cast rotors, and no one but mazda and jim downing has the casts to do this, you would also need this for the housings etc. because quite a few of the parts are "non machinable". And there have been people on this board working very hard for quite a while to just be able to rechrome the housings, and we still dont have it down to an art. Its basically an insermountable task. Plus the engine have been optimized how they are. i mean if there was a lot more pwr to be gain by going just a little bigger mazda would have done that back in the day.

I would agree and disagree. There are companies out there that have and ARE making larger rotor motors.
There are casting firms out there that would be more than happy to cast you blanks. All you need is the funding. The rotors would need to be cast in order to get all the lightening pockets way deep inside - but - the Rotor housing do not have to be cast. They could be machined from billet. The only reason Mazda cast the rotor housings is for mass production cost.
Curtiss / Wright did a single rotor with 31500CC and a bunch of 980CC per rotor stuff back in the 60's and 70's
BTW - A 13B is 654CC per rotor.
