ummmmm...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think yo umean a Y pipe.

X or H pipes are for V6 and 8 (or more) Engines that have a header on each side that dotn connect.

I've read many times that X-pipes do not do much of anything on a rotary, I believe it has something to do w/ the exhaust pulses

Yep. X-pipe is designed for a "V" engine. The pulses from the firing pipe help draw out the pulses from the opposite side as the exhaust opens.

so everyone is in agreement that a cat-back is definitely the way to go?

The question you are TRYING to ask is wether its better to go with a DUAL exhaust Cat-Back, or a Single sided Cat-Back.

now try it again

LOL, assuming that this IS the question, the choices are basically:

Single exhaust = More power, less weight, less cost, better look on an FD or FB
Dual exhaust = Better sound, better look on an FC

Choose whatever you like.

SA (SA22C) = Series 1 (78-80)
FB (FB33) = Series 2 (81-83) and Series 3 (83-85)

Although not exactly correct, Americans tend to call all of the 1Gen RX-7's by the FB name, while most of the rest of the world usually uses the SA designation. Confused yet?
