as most said it was a pretty DISAPPOINTING event..
as for pics i took a few, but there was not much to take pics of. the sp rx7 with the supra motor was pretty cool to look at. they were claiming 862hp to the wheels. they tried to make a few passes but running on drag radials ever time the car got under boost it would just go sideways. the hondas were pretty fast, but there was not much else to watch. only a hand full of cars in the other classes. i wish i had the money to finish up my car, it would have been pretty easy to get in a payout position. i almost felt like i wasted a whole weekend. I do have to give a hats off Steve Kan, pulling the motor and getting it back together and then running again. i would think the people putting on the wic lost a ton of money from this event. I was hoping that marcus would have his car out. ah well.

good things from the event..
meet with a few friends..
the rx7s won..
kenny tran ran i think his best time ever.
i got a cool video hks drag meet from japan. -made the weekend worth it.-

for those that did not make it out to the event. they did not miss much.
i hope this is not a sign of things to come this year.

man...what a weekend??!?!?! The turnout was kinda lame. I was expecting more people in my class but there were only 6 people in power 6.

Here's my long story of this weekend....

We made it to Houston Sat morning around 6am. We didn't have time to make it to the event on friday so we decided to leave early on Sat and hoping to qualified. On Sat morning, I made my first elimination pass and popped the motor. What happened was that I have a EVC IV that I use for boost control. But the problem is that I want to run 27-28psi of boost because I won't be running n2o so I figured a little more boost would help me be more competitive. Since the EVC has a safety feature where when an overboost occurs, it would shut the boost off completely. Knowing that I want to run right at the edge, I figured I would use a manual boost controller and tune it to 27-28psi of boost. While tuning my car at that boost level, my car wouldn't go pass 26psi so I keep turning the boost controller up until I get a spike to almost 29psi and comes down to 27psi so that I know I have enough boost for the event. So the entire Sat day, I thought everything was great at the event not knowing that boost controller was close to maxed out. On my first qualifying, I made my easy launch pass making sure everything looks good (at the same time, I was trying to keep myself from hitting the center line so I didn't pay too much attention on boost level) I kinda glanced at the boost level in 3rd gear and I thought everything was okay. When I shifted to 4th gear, my car started to run a little lean (but not too bad), so I looked at the boost level and saw 35-36psi in 4th. and by the time I realized that I need to let off, the motor popped on me. I ran a 10.87@126mph on that run and the motor popped way before the 1000'

So I came back to the trailer and did a compression test and found that there's virtually nothing in the rear rotor. We decided that since I already qualifed and qualifed 1st, we would pull the motor out and see what's wrong with it and maybe we could fix it (knowing that there's a (Ari's spare motor in the truck anyways). We pulled the motor out in PR style and found 1 apex seal shatter into 5 pieces . Fortunately, nothing was hurt (including the turbo) so we replaced the rear apex seals with new ones. and put the motor back together. It took us a total of 6hrs (pulling the motor out, rebuild it and putting the motor in) and things were back in normal again. However, we wanted to do a few test drives to make sure that everything works like they should and no oil or coolant leak so we went to the highway and did a few pulls. We found out that the car breaks up at 6krpm in 4th gear (damn triggering problem again) and we couldn't fix it w/o an O-scope. This problem always occur when I pull the motor out (not sure why). So we decided to leave it at that and see how the car runs.

During the elimination, I made my pass and ran a (1.65s 60') 11.0@124mph letting off and coasted when it breaks up at around 800' because the car would break up at 6krpm. I figured that since the closest in the compeition ran a 11.2@132mph, I would be okay as long as I get a good launch when I have to race against him in the final. Next round, I made another pass to see what I would do if I launch a little harder (1.59 60') and ran a 10.80@121mph. So here comes the final when I have to race against the supra. I figured either I break or I'll win since his car has been running 132+mph all day. we lined up, I launch and did a (1.41s 60' popping both wheels off the ground for about 15') and made it to the finish line with a 10.59@119mph.

I figured that run should have been a 10.25@134mph if my car was running correctly. Not only did I ran my best ever 60', but I also ran my best 1/8mile on that run with a
1.41s 60'
6.52@105mph in the 1/8 with turbo only
and my first ever popping a wheelie on my street car weighting @ 2950lbs on the scale.

It was alot of work but overall, it was well worth it.

yeah that Sp rx7 cantraption ran like a ******* Supra would, nothing until 120 mph it was nicely done but what is the point? it belongs in the shows not on the track. and there is no way that it was making the 800+ hp they claimed it was..and they said it was running at full boost. just goes to show you that it is not the Supra shell that makes them run like **** it is the drivetrain!

Mako, i planned on bringing my car out sunday just to show it but i was blowing chunks all day sunday! I REALLY wish i would have been ready. i am trying to get reday for the IDRC event apr 13 in san Antonio, if it runs like it should i may be in Fl for the NHRA opener.

Go to the worldimportchallenge.com site and check out the message board and see what some of the pro racers are saying about the event!
Now I know my opinions about the event and promoters are shared among the other racers!

Yea, me too. I am flying out to florida for the NHRA even they are having down there. Is should be dope since all the real racers are in either florida or east coast and I know they have been waiting all winter to go playball.

The people at WIC even messed up the spelling of the sponsor's and host track names on the trophies!
They had just under 1yr to correct that sought of problems! Just goes to show thier lack of respect to the sponsors and racers. I guess their priorities were some where else!

The Moroso event is the weekend before the Gainsville NHRA event!
From the looks of it I don't think it's gonna be ready!

The only thing that the westside started is the actual drag circut. East coaster have been racing their datsuns and toyotas for YEARS. Im talking about before Lisa Kubo and Kenny Tran. My friend has been drag racing since the early 80s. Back when I was a toddler. West Coast racers are like your rappers. TERRIBLE!!!
