What's the difference between PS and RWHP?

Ok, so i keep looking through my hyper rev RX7 magazines and I see all these RX7's making monster power but they're all rated in "PS" can anyone give me an approximation how PS is converted into horsepower? It's kinda annoying how everything is rated differently everywhere.

Hmmm...well in German speaking countries PS just means HP (as in bhp not whp).

P = Pferd = Horse
S = Staerke = Power

...unless there's another explaination

or PS x 0.98629 = HP

Horsepower is the standard set by the Society of Automobile Engineers, which is also called SAE horsepower.

Like eViLRotor said, PS is short for the German word Pferdestarke, it is the term used for metric horsepower, also known as DIN horsepower. DIN is short for Deutsche Industrie Normen which simply translates to "German industrial standard".

PS is usually measured with the engine installed in the chasis and with accessories. So it is not really perfectly acurate when really trying to convert it with a forumula.

BHP or brake horsepower is measured when the engine is not connected to the chassis or any accessories attached to the engine. Or sometimes called the flywheel horsepower.

You're confusing a couple things here. "Brake horsepower" means that the power was measured with a load - hence "brake" - to hold the engine at a steady RPM. So BHP can be measured with all accessories, full exhaust, etc. The measurements which did NOT include those items were the "gross HP" ratings that Detroit used before 1971. Today's "SAE Net HP" ratings - eg 255 HP in an FD - are brake measurements made at the flywheel while the engine is equipped with all accessories, etc.
