Question whats the big deal?

i have a set of m/t et streets and they recommend tubes. i would like to know why? is it just so they hold air longer? make em safer somehow? i usually just throw a can of fix a flat in there and air em up and they hold fine, anydown sides to this?
thanks

fix-a-flat type stuff ruins tires and rims when you leave it in too long.

There's really no downside to not using tubes, although you'll need to constantly be putting air in them.
