what will it take for my Turbo 2, 2nd gen beat a Subaru WRX Sti

can a stock rx-7 turbo 2 beat a Subaru WRX Sti(it has had work done to it, i don't know what exactly) ?

ok...here's the deal, i have a 1990, STOCK turbo 2 rx-7, and i would like to beat(if i can't beat them, at least keep up with them) a Subaru WRX STI(its been worked, the owner is part of the subaru club, and he has deeper pockets than me) ....so that makes me the underdog.

i would like to have the car handle and perform better than the WRX....so that mean absolute defeat(for the WRX...hopefully),i understand that the subaru has technology behind it, but if it come to driving skill...i think i can cover that end....but its the engine work that i'm questioning

now i don't have to worry cause this car isn't my daily driver. and i don't want to put a small block v8 inside.

so any recomendations on HOW MUCH ($$$$$$$$$$$$$) and WHAT PARTS AM I GOING TO NEED(brakes, suspention, turbo timer,...) and WHERE YOU GUYS SUGGEST I GET THE PARTS

anything you guys can recommend would help greatly, oooo and i'm located in N.Y,

You should be able to take him off the line. after 60 you probably would need a better turbo to keep up subaru didnt bs when it came to making the sti but a rotary runnin some nice boost will smoke that ish all day

12 to 15 lbs of boost should be enough to keep up, depending on how how much hp the
subaru is making.

A turbo-timer only adds a few HP, so you should hold off on that.

So it's a worked STi whose owner has deep pockets? I'm thinking that'll be a pretty fast car. Honestly, I think you'd need to spend quite a bit of money on a total build for the car. Personally I would go 20B, but that might be cost prohibitive. Then again, a good high-hp 13b setup is going to cost a lot, too.

sarchasm defeats you.

just run 14 lbs, ebs, ported waste gate. safc2. bigger afm if one can be found. bigger injectors, and a newer fuel pump.

once you get past 120 mph where boost cut is, youll be cake.

damn those chasms, thinking they're so good with their depth and um.. I'm out. Building onto the existing setup is going to cost a few times less than fabricating to fit a 20b.

Standalone
Bigger Turbo
Upgraded injectors and pump
FMIC
Turbo Back Exhaust (3 inch duals)

expect to spend 2500-3500 (more if u have to pay for labor)
Plenty of shops and people in your area. Now there are probably cheaper (short term) Ways to 'beat this guy' but if you really want to do it one time only and do it right, spend the loot. Standalone EMS is the first step to unlocking the power (U get to toss the AFM and the TID away)

ummm well I have some experiance with this... I had an sti ver 4 swap in my old gc8... and I've had 5 rx7's. First you should loose some weight... making a lighter car will help you with both acceleration and cornering..... next learn to drift.... only cause when you push our cars to the limits around a corner, your rear may come out a little... you need to control that... thats your advantage.. awd tends to understeer + his fat assed sti (3250lbs) compounds that problem... unless he knows how to use the DCCD.
Now you need really good rubber.... the difference is amazing... next shoot for about 300hp...yea he'll make more BUT he weighs more and has more parasitic loss (awd) and they're built like bricks. If you can hit a 1.5~1.8 60 ft time... you'll beat him.... sti's top end starts to suffer around 80mph thanks to drag and AWD and a small turbo.
Your suspension is completely different on a drag vs a track... set it up for track if you have to choose one... you'r 60' in the drag will suffer though.
So you're looking at A) an rtec2.0 for engine management (bare minimum.. i'd go with a haltec) and injectors B) rubber with light weight rims (get the best rubber you can afford) C) hows your turbo and cooling system? might need to rebuild the turbo OR get a slightly bigger one.... not too big or you'll lag in the corners. Long tracks make things HOT too D) stiff struts and springs for track (prefer some adjustables so you can get your rear to hook up in the drag) E) the usual intake exhaust stuff. F) new brake pads.... stock stopping power is great, imo, you'll get aome brake fade though.

Scary things... his car may be out of your reach... not too many cars can hang with a 400~500hp sti (relatively easy to get) with good tires and suspension work... and if he's got money... it may be pushing even more. Good luck. You'll probably need to go full standalone and get some porting done... more power on less boost.

oh yea how good is your real differential... it's probably pretty worn out... that could be a deciding factor too.

oh yea...get some rear eliminators... that rear crap may have been usefull when it was brandnew...but it's probably old worn out and sloppy... you need predictibility in your cornering...so change em out

Fix the system instead of taking it out.

Taking the system out IS fixing it. Most people don't like their cars to feel like they're about to swap asses when they take a corner.

I bet the OP doesn't even have the same car anymore... considering you revived a 7 year old thread...
