What type of heat would cause this?

What type of heat would cause this?

Well a friend of mine took his S4 turbo off to install a S5 turbo, and while he has changing out the exhaust housing i saw this.

Front Rotor


Rear Rotor


Well i no that both where in great shape when i pulled them out of some bad turbo II housing to install them in these NA housing.

All the info about this motor setup is in this thread Frankenstein motor

This exhaust sleeve got burnt out in about 10K miles.

In my 10+ years messing with rotaries I have never seen one do this, anyone seen it before?

How hot was the other side? IE: how did the plugs look?
