What turbo?????

Okay guys, i know you all here all the best so i'm asking you. I just my '93 RX-7 (love it to death!) and i want to start modifing it. I heard i should get a large, single turbocharger and intercooler over the stock twin sequential turbocharger system? Is a single turbo really better (i do know how they work but not as applied to rotary engines). Also, what is the first mod i should get to gain sum serious power with the least amount of money spent? Thanx

Dave

Welcome to the rotary world.....u r now classified as being sick in the head with the rest of us...... ..For your question there is a lot that can be done....try doin a search there is a lot of info u can find. The single setup is probably what u will want to have but dont sell those twins short....ive seen guys put down some impressive numbers with twins. The first thing u can do is change your exhaust u will see and feel a difference with that alone.....good luck man and happy rotarying.

After you change the exhaust out, open the intake up with a dual filter setup like the M2 box (do they still make it?). Once you are running open intake and exhaust, you should look at a remapped ECU.. But, at that point, you need to decide how much HP you want out of this thing... if you are happy 300-350 rwhp, you may just need to get a remapped ECU from M2 or maybe someone else. If you are looking for more power, I would suggest getting a standalone ECU such as the Haltech E6k/E11, Apexi Power FC or any other such animal. The PFC is much easier to install on the FD and with the dataloggit can be made into a VERy decent ECU.

After that, intercooler time, and possibly time for some larger secondaries.

My philosophy has always been to get the ECU to support what you want in the future... it is MUCH safer that way with a rotary. True, you won't get the instant satisfaction of spending money on go fast parts... but the supporting cast is VERY important on a rotary. Without it, your motor will not last.

Thanks guys. I heard about the Haltech ECU you mentioned, you can program it with a laptop, right? I'm looking at an intake now.
