Any 13B transmission will bolt up to your engine
Why do you want a different transmission?
If you plan on making big power then consider the TII tranny.

GSL-SE has an early model 13B right? Just making sure I'm telling you the right stuff. Because any 13B engine will mate up with any transmission that came from a car wtih a 13B engine.

Not sure what else for the swap though. I'd imagine you would want to swap in the whole drivetrain, so transmission, driveshaft, differential, axles, etc. Not the easiest job, but not the hardest. There's probably something in the 1st Gen forum on it.

You need a flywheel that takes the TII (240 mm) clutch - if your engine is a normal GSL-SE engine, that means a lightweight flywheel with counterweight.
(unless you can track down an RX-4 bellhousing. edit: but then if you need a TII trans, you'll be hard pressed to find a 225mm clutch that will handle the power)

The driveshaft would be a custom one with a TII driveshaft front and a flange that fits your axle.
The TII shifter sits back too far, so there's more work to do there. It can be modified but I haven't done that to mine yet.

What tranny will work with your engine? Simple answer that..... ANY tranny!!

If you wanted to, you could bolt it up to a Renault 5 gearbox!!! All you need is a suitable clutch plate that fits inside the clutch housing on the flywheel, and to make a bellhousing from box-section steel

So you can use a Jaguar gearbox if you really wanted to

Racing beat makes a performance clutch just for this conversion.

I have a T2 tranny in my car because I have a T2 motor in it.

You can bolt the Tranny up to the GSL-SE motor but there are a few things that must be done to make it work.

1) Either modify the stock 1st gen trans mount ( what I did) or fabricate a new one.

2) Have a custom drive shaft built

3) Cut the trans tunnel back about 2 inches. The shifter will be moved back about 2 inches.

You can modify the shifter by replaceing the shift linkage
with the parts from a first gen transmission.

4) as stated above, You must use the proper clutch and pressure plate.

Unless you are planning on going turbo there is no real reason to upgrade. The stock tranny should handle all the torque that an N/A motor can make.
