An update on the Australian Drag scene

Just a thread to give some of you guys that may not be up on what is happening in the Australian drag scene after the recent post about the Aussie FD that ran 7.88...

There are no less than 4 very serious efforts very close to completion. I will give a brief run down on the whos and the whats.

First off we have the Dalton FD.

This car is a full chassis car and will run a refined version of the engine they campaigned for many years in their R100 which ran a best of 8.52@159mph (Picture here)

For more info on the RX7, click here.

Next on the scene is the Rotor Master FD.

This car is a full chassis effort, with an air shifted gforce sitting behind a developed version of the 20B from their R100 which ran a best of 8.23 @ 149mph (Picture of the R100 here ). The car had run up to 163mph previously with a C4 behind it. The new engine will have a larger turbo and alot more NOS plumbed through it.

For more info go see Rotor Masters website here.

Next is the Mazsport FD.

This car runs a methanol slurping 20B backed by a manual shifted 5 speed lenco. The car has a 3/4 chassis and is a brand new setup. Mazsport have put together 2 20B RX3s previously and both have run in the high 8s.

The last and possibly most highly anticipated is the full chassis, carbon fibre bodied Mazda MX6 of Pac Racing. These guys are the most well known workshop in Australia and have a string of 8 second strip stormers as well as a swag of 9 second mini tubbed cars and 10 second street cars. There are no pics available as yet of the Pac car, but the car is estimated to weigh under 2000lbs and will be powered by a 20B setup that has previously run mid 8s in a much heavier car.

Have a look at the Pac site here.

Also in the news is the RX3 of Paul Murray. It runs a 13B turbo on an 8.5 inch slick . Best ET to date is a 9.03 @ 159mph! Next quickest untubbed car is another RX3 thast has run 9.16 also on an 8.5 inch slick. There is a huge battle for the quickest untubbed car in Australia and there are about 10 cars that are battling for this titile...

www.fullboost.com.au is one of the better sites around that is kept very up to date with the goings on of the Australian scene.

I must say those cars are mighty sexy.
Especially the MazSport, and thats quite a spoiler on the Rotor Master FD.
Quite a nice rotary drag scene you have.

So when do we start hearing about you tearing up the strip in national competition?

peejay - That car is another car on the prowl for fastest untubbed. It runs a Cosmo engine like mine with a Garrett TA45, jerrico 4 speed and 9 inch. Best to date is a 9.8 @ 14x. Will try and find some pics for you...

Wow. You know, you'd think a car would lurch LEFT on a wheelstand. (Coriolis Effect work on wheelstands too? )

I like SAVANA better though. Y'see, one thing that gets me about turbo rotaries is that you can't hear the turbo. On a boinger, you take off the exhaust so you only have about half a meter of downpipe, and you can hear that wonderful turbo whistle. On a rotary you can't even tell it's turbocharged. Oh well...

edit: In a pang on conscience I think I should show this to ya... 12A RX-7 with a turbo blowing through the stock carb, and stock clutch/transmission/rearend, 10.5" slicks, and full interior.

http://www.mazdaracing.com/zoom.mpg

Ya might like it (FWIW I do not condone street racing, but this car is just plain cool)
