Rotor Weight Deviations vs. Letter Stamp

I was wondering what weight deviations are associated with the various letters stamped on the rotors. i.e. the "A" weight rotor is 0.??lbs less than the "C" and the "E" is 0.??lbs heavier than the "C".

Thanks,
Justin

Don't know the percentages. Just keep them within two letters of each other.

I'll I've seen have the S. There is another letter, A-E, on the gear side of the rotor.

I have a couple FD "E" rotors and a "B". I will try to find a scale on campus and see what weights they are.

S5/S6 rotor weights

Okay, these are the weights of 3 9.0:1 comp S5/S6 rotors that are clean, include the rotor bearings and gears and have no seals or oil control rings in them.

"B" 4377.57g (9.650lb)
"C" 4342.11g (9.573lb)
"D" 4343.67g (9.576lb)

hmmm.... not in order?

The letters listed above are from the gear side. The "C" and "D" rotors both had an "E" on the other side.

Looks like the 0.05lb I am planning on removing (beveling on the trailing edge) shouldn't be a problem for the counterweights though.

unless your rotor's are completely clean dirt, oil, other buildup would be throwing your numbers off by a little.

Also take into consideration that all of the rotors will not have exactly the same wear on them.

What wear are you talking about? Rotors don't make contact with the rotor housings unless something major went wrong. The only normal wear there here is the bearing wear. Is that what your talking about?

Mean Rotor Weights

BTW: Of these rotor weights posted earlier:

"B" 4377.57g (9.650lb)
"C" 4342.11g (9.573lb)
"D" 4343.67g (9.576lb)

The last one ("D") is the S6 rotor. Maybe that explains the fact that it seems "out of order"?

Kevin at Rotary Resurrection PM'd me these "mean" rotor weights. Thanks Kevin for taking the time.

B 9.65lb 4377g
C 9.6lb 4354g
D 9.55lb 4331g
E 9.51lb 4314g

A few of these I had more than one rotor of each letter of, and I noticed that within each letter there is still a tolerance of 0.03lb one way or another. So a C could be anywhere from about 9.58 to 9.63. As i've stated before, the letters are just a tolerance scale, and not absolute. For instance, the general rule is to stay within 1 letter when doing a build, like C and D, which should be something like 9.55 with 9.6, a variance of 0.05lb. In reality you could have a light B and a heavy D that would mate up just fine, like 9.63 and 9.57, still a tolerane of 0.05, but not within the "rule" of 1 letter.
So in summary the answer to my question:

It looks like there are ~23grams (0.05lb)in each letter range.
