Rotary engine authority
Rotary engine authority
I want to have enough knowledge about rotaries that I can confidently call my self an authority on the topic. I have rebuilt one motor, lol. I believe hands on experience will be a key component, but what written resources are available for me to absorb?
Thanks

"The Wankel Engine" by Jan P. Norbye. Although it was written in 1971, it details EVERYTHING about the Wankel engine including previous designs by Dr. Wankel through Mazda, Citroen, Mercedes... Also get a copy of the Racing Beat catalog with all the tips and tricks in it. There's also a copy of a SAE paper floating around the net written about the R26B LeMans winning motor. As far as porting, look up "Judge Ito's porting..."
Also lookup "The Rotary Engine" by Kenichi Yamamoto written in 1981. He was the chief engineer that is reponsible for developing the rotary into what it is today after Felix Wankel passed on the project to Mazda.

there are about 1 SAE papers per rotary engine revision, starting with the R100, and going up to the Rx8
EDIT: actually beyond the Rx8, there were two last year
