There should be 4 timing marks on that pulley. From left to right they represent in this order; 10 degrees atdc, 0 (tdc), 10 degrees btdc, 20 degrees btdc. Stock timing is set as follows; leading at 0 degrees, trailing at 10 degrees atdc. On my n/a best performance was obtained by advancing the timing (turning the cas right) by 5 degrees. Easy to figure out since you just go halfway between marks.

You don't with the stock ecu. If everything is running correctly then when you change the timing light pickup point from the leading to the trailing side then the corresponding line on the pulley will be lighted up. Obviously there should be one line visible with the leading and the other visible for the trailing. When using a distributer you can adjust the split seperately on the distributer itself. If you have an aftemarket ecu you can also adjust them individually.
