RA x ATKINS apex seals (have searched
I love my RA seals!
We just opened up my motor (lost a bearing turns out)
today
and the RA seal are mint even after some 25 PSI runs on a 67mm turbo
8K miles
the housing look fine
My VAC readings have never gone down
in the 18 months of life of this motor
engine has always started right up
cold or hot
They Take abuse
when you detonate or run extreme EGT's
they warp compared to other seals that break
and destroy rotors/housings
Like I stated before in the past
for HP applications use OEM mazda springs

the rotary avition seals dont really like worn/used housings... correct? as for the Rotary Aviation New Nitrite Coated apex Seals im also curious. if someone posts the number i'll call on my lunch break tomorrow and throw out a million questions to make their heads spin... well acually they'll prolly make my head spin
anyway im lookin into rotary aviation seals for my next build thats gonna happen in the next two weeks. so pretty much we want stock corner, and apex springs. any other info would be helpful to me as im counting my money to send out and i would like to spend it right
any other engine experience rotar heads wanna comment?

RA seals don't break in....they break your motor in
i've built a bunch of motors with RA seals, and have yet to have one come back with low compression. of course, i used stock springs with most of them.

guitar junkie what specs would you recomment on housings to be "good" for the ra seals? i have two bocks to tear apart and im gonna use the best housings but i just would like to know the boundary on housings! also if you could accomidate me with side clearance specs that would be a bonus! thanks for all your help...
ha you must have a subscription like i do to this tread... everytime i post your next in line always. but yeah thought about the manual just wondered if you had higher expectations. i'll hopefully have time this weekend to tear one apart... hopefully! on another note has anyone called about the Nitrided seals yet?

just post up pics of all the housings and anyone here can help you pick the best out of the bunch.

Well here are a couple pics of the one housing I reused in my rebuild scratches and all.
So far I have 1,500 miles on the rebuild and the engine fires up everytime. Having these scratches are going to make it easier for me to see how much wear I get from the RA seals at 10k.

as for the return does anyone understand what they mean buy the use with the new housings or where someone got this info cause on the site they make no mention of it just this... " RETURN POLICY

Apex seals and other engine parts are guaranteed against defects in manufacturing and material for 60 days from date of purchase. We also guarantee they will be a direct replacement part for stock Mazda seals. Defective products will be replaced. "
im just confused but i'll hopefully clear that up tomorrow.

na, when i come online, i just search for my forum name and i can check all the threads i've posted on at once.
t-von. there's a LOT you can get away with when building a rotary and still have them work pretty well. i use a lot of questionable parts when building a motor for myself, but i'm not afforded that luxury on customer motors. when i do one for a customer, i always pretend someone is going to come in behind me and critique my work. if you build a motor with that thought in mind, you'll do a good job
so ra seals with stock heat treated springs sound like a good combo for a big street port ~15psi low mileage jdm rebuild with used but not abused housings? i always figure that if you pop the motor you can plan on at least finding another used rotor housing and rotor.

I definitely understand where your coming from. Some people just need to realized that you can in fact get away with certain things when rebuilding these engines and not expect them to just fail on you.
im debating this week if im gonna order the RA seals... im sending my two shortblocks to kevin at rotary res. and hes tellin me to go with either atkins or stockers for his warrantee purpose. yet a blown motor is gonna be outta warrantee anyway
. anyone know how much new side and apex springs cost? i gotta send back parts to ray anyway cause he thought he knew what parts i needed... grrrrr! if i can get a good deal on the oem's im gonna go with them if not the ra's are goin in!!! just bumpin the thread cause springs here and im way too excited again!!!!!!!!

My rebuild has RA Apex Seals and brand new Mazda OEM Apex Springs... was running strong for 3k miles until a friend snapped the Tie Rod and ran the damn think into a curb. Bent my damn frame like that... and I was on vacation too >.<
Course, thats why I got me a vert to swap my motor into :-p

^ Damn! Anyways you re-arc them by hand. The springs are suppose to be a certain height to be with-in spec. All your doing is just bending them in a way that the spring gets more of an arc so it doesn't appear as flat looking.
I just got my re-build kit through the door this morning from RA and I have to say that the service was excellent, the postage to the UK wasn't even a week. I'll be sorting the engine in the next week or so and I'll post the results.
I also got the rebuild DVD aswell.
