Question about Lightened Flywheels

are they worth using? i was told that its better to have the heaviest flywheel since it helps with torque...? i understand the concept but what would be best for street use?

not sure if you meant "lightened" or "lightweight", so i'll address your question literally.

frankly, i don't trust lightened flywheels. i'm sure many have used and continue to use them with results that satisfy them, but i just feel that by the time you remove enough weight to make a difference, you've compromised structural integrity.

i would definitely recommend aftermarket lightweight flywheels though. what would be best is whatever you can tolerate/adapt to. the lighter you go, the more you'll have to modify your clutch techniques, but the engine response throttle inputs increases with less weight. if you're not sure what you want, play it safe and get the 17-pound one from RB.

For street the RB unit is good. You still end up with about 30lbs spinning on the back of the engine with the clutch included but that's better than about 45lbs stock.

Drag racers like a heavier flywheel to store energy for hitting the tires hard at launch. After that it doesn't help.

you can use the really light ones (anywhere between 9 and 12 pounds) on the street, but you'll have to adapt yourself if you live in a place with many hills.

Its all about where the weight is on the flywheel. Towards the outter edge or in the middle???
