problem with haltech + MSD's

I have a question about hooking up 3 6As to my car running a E6K. can someone tell me which 3 wires from the haltech 'ignition module' plug i need to hook up the white signal wires from the MSD's to? and which wire (please give collor and pin letter) corresponds to which coil?

i'm using an Australian ecu and i have noticed that some of the wire collors are diffrent from the US units, thats why I ask for pin letter also.

Thanx!!

Wayne, I wouldn't hold out on you. Actually, Steve gave me the contact info of a Friend at Haltech AU, who could help me. I havent recived a response from him yet, but I only e-mailed him 2 hours ago.

If anyone is interested, the answer to my MSD question is in here:

BTW Wayne, Thanx again for the Tow Rope at T&R the other day!!

Wayne, check your PM

heres a detailed answer from Justin at Haltech AU:

Dear Roan,
Ok please find the details on how to connect and setup the 3 x MSD6A units with the E6K.

The IGNITION OUT wire (light green) will control the LEADING coil pack, This should be connected to the points input of the MSD connected to the leading coil pack (White wire on MSD is points input). This is pin C on the Haltech plug

The DIGOUT 1 wire (white/black) will control TRAILING 1 coil, This should be connected to the points input (white wire) on the MSD conneted to the TRAILING 1 coil. This is pin E on the Haltech plug

The DIGOUT2 wire (Blue) will control TRAILING 2 coil, This should be connected to the points input (white wire) of the MSD connected to the TRAILING 2 coil. This is pin D on the Haltech plug.

The ECU should be set for rotary direct fire mode and the output type should be set to "constant duty", The output edge should be set at "rising" and the percenatge duty cycle should be set at 50%.

Please note that the E6K ecu should not be mounted near the MSD units as they are a source of RF inteference, Ideally the MSD's should be in the engine bay and the ECU behind the firewall, If this is not practical keep them as far away from each other as possible, It is a good idea to use resistor type spark plugs also as this will also help minimise RF. Good quality silcon supressed igntion leads are also required, We use and recommend Magnecore brand leads ... these are very good quality and are excellent at suppressing RF.

Ok now for the injectors, Some of the the information you have been given is incorrect, The E6K system in standard trim is capable of running 8 x low impedance injectors (approx 2 ohms each).
To connect the setup that you wan please connect the injectors as detailed below

Primary injector 850cc Rotor 1 ... connect to INJ1 on the Haltech (light blue wire)

Primary Injector 850cc Rotor 2 ... connect to INJ2 on the Haltech (Blue wire/Red stripe)

Secondary Injector 1 x 850cc injector as well as 1 x 1000cc injector .. connect these both in parralell and connect them to INJ3 on the Haltech (green wire/red stripe)

Secondary Injector 1 x 850cc injector as well as 1 x 1000cc injector ... connect these both in parralell and connect to INJ4 on the Haltech (Pink wire)

Please note that a standard Haltech 6 cylinder injector loom will not be wired in this configuration, You will have to modify that to suit your application.

Under the input/output setup page in the E6K software you should set the extra injector drivers for INJ3 and INJ4 to enabled.

Injection mode should be staged and an ign/by of 2 should be used for rotary applications.

It is unlikley that the 850cc and 1000cc injectors are going to be high impedance, Generally speaking injectors with the larger flow rate tend to be low impedance.
To verify what you have use a multimeter on resistance mode to measure across the 2 pins on the injector, If they measure around 2 ohms they are low impedance, If they measure 10ohms Plus they are high impedance.

The primaries should work fine as they are whether they are low or high impedance as you onlty have 2 of them. With the secondaries if they are all high impedance then they will also work fine with the E6K in standard settings, If either of the secondary injectors or even both of the secondaries in each rotor are low impedance you will need to enable extra injector drivers 3 and 4 under the input/output setup page in the E6K software.

Please find below some screen shots of the software showing how the input/output setup page should be set as well as the igntion setup page, Note the trigger angles and tooth offsets are accurate for a standard series 4 or 5 RX7 (you guys camm then Gen2) with the CAS in stock position, this should be verified as correct with a timing light before applying any fuel and attemtping to start the engine.

I hope this answers the questions that you have asked, I know I have dumped a wole lot of info on you so if there is anything in there you dont understand or anything more that we can do for you please let me know.

Also just for your reference we have another dealer that gives many of our customers great support and he is a rotary specialist, if you ever need more help and for some reason you cant get us you can get him at www.hitman.hm, he also has a lot of setup info on his website that can be a good reference.

Hoping that helps
Kind Regards
Justin Kearns

hmm the 6a's should go between the coil and igniter, and shouldn't have anything to do the the haltech... haltech just adds one wire to the igniter.

How is that for after sales service? After just 8hrs someone on the other side of the world (in a waaaay diferent timezone) gives you that much info... kinda impressive. Some workshops don't even return calls!

the msd's go between the haltech(sends signal to ignitor) and the coils. the 6A's act as the ignitors.
