Pre turbo WI

Hi... Im new to this forum from the UK.

Im about to tune my FD for 15psi of boost on the stock twins with a stock ported engine and all the bolt ons etc.

I want to run pre turbo WI to try and increase the compressor efficency. Has anybody on here done this or can offer me any advice.

Thank

SW

Not too many have. I remember RICE RACING saying he ran a low budget system like this for a while. I really like the simplicity of the mechanical systems (use turbo pressure to pressurize the water source so it injects in proportion to your boost) I don't remember what his experience was but I get the feeling he was happy with it. I have suggestions/reports that the water can erode the compressor wheel but don't know more.

For what that's worth.

doesnt wi pre-turbo drasticly increase wear on the compressor itsself. IIRC, it actualy wears away at the compressor and will eventualy ruin it?

If you run to much water it will chip the compressor wheel. but small amounts with alc can be very very good

SW, might be worth having a look here.

You might have to login first though, but its well worth it as there is lots of technical information there.

It's cheap, it works, its great. Just do it. Peter (Rice) has been promising to send me some kits for nearly a year now. Need to nag him again.

Saw some calculations once that showed a nearly 30% reduction in shaft HP needed for a certain boost level.

It doesn't increase turbo efficiency (that is a fixed value inherent to a given compressor) BUT it does work as an anti-detonant, which is always good. With WI you can safely run lean of stoich under high boost! (But I wouldn't want to do it except to prove a point)

He is slack

Got an order of nozzels coming as just as christmas is fast approaching so too is my batch of WI kits

My pre turbo one is o.k. all of them will result in minor wear on the comp wheel, real bad kits will do what was posted on the aquamist site !

The only draw back of mine cause its a simple pnematic kit is metering is fixed by boost pressure, can be fixed by using a PWM table of an aftermarket ECU output and using a boost solenoid for example to regulate the flow based on rpm and load for example (some have done this with sucsess).

Aquamist 2D is great if you have the cash.

Where do I find more info about your kits? Or at least these nozzels?

Rice i was thinking of using a 0.5GPH jet pre turbo. How would this compare to your experience.

I use a Air/water atomizer of very high quality, its droplet size is very small and even when used close to compressor wheel it does not result in such agressive wear, you have to use a combination jet like this. It basically pulvirizes the already fine water droplets with a duel intensity air blast to give it very very fine water droplets that casue no damage at all.

I cant comment onthe other water only jets but in general they seem to not work anywhere near as well.

When I do mine with the Aquamist system I will be injection into the air box (post filter) this is roughly 300mm to 500mm away form the compressor wheels on either turbo and will give the larger droplets a chance to vaporize before they reach the turbo.

Another little tip is if you pressed for space to not start injecting water untill you have some air speed up in the pipe (at least 8 psi boost), it all helps.

Cheers. I was gonna put the injectors at the intake. Do you sell these jets or could tell me where to get them. I still gotta fully decide what size i need tho.

Sw

thanks for any help you can give. This is just the sort of help i need
