Pre-Silencers

Anyone have any reccomendations for a pre-silencer?

I'm going to be building a custom exhaust for a ported 6 port 13B.
Somthing like this...

Sorry for the crude drawing... I did it on my palm haldheld...

The header will be an SDJ and the mufflers will be free flowing.

I'm looking for pre-silencers that will provide maximum sound reduction, with minimal exhaust restriction...

I want my cake and to eat it too!

Thanks!!!

RacingBeat makes a nice one. It's kind of pricey, but it's quality. I've got a full RB exhaust on my car and I love it. Very quiet, but I'm also still using the stock exhaust manifold. I've been told with a header everything should come to life, though.

Your exhaust drawing is very similar to what I'm about to fab up for my project, except I'll be using the "presilencers" (Re-welded Moroso spiral flows with car chemistry 3 disc inserts before them) after the collector, before the main mufflers (dynomax HD superturbo RV mufflers). Same long primaries, same X pipe though.

Racing beat claims their presilencers can be used before the collection point, unlike an obstructed unit like the spiral flows, because the acoustic tuning affect of the header collector is orders of magnitudes greater than the amount of sound removed and restriction of their presilencers.

I only wish I could find their presilencers in 2" inlet / outlet without the rest of the first gen exhaust system sold with them. I'd put them before the collector, ahead of all the other mufflers in my setup.

Thanks guys,
Yeah, I've looked at the RB... Ouch on the price tho:

http://www.racingbeat.com/resultset....rtNumber=16401

That's $340 US... and I live in Canada, so double ouch...

I was kinda hoping for someone to come with somthing else. At this point the RB are my backup plan if I can't find anything cheaper...

Why dont you look into a magnaflow or borla muffler and shove in there. You can get one of there straight through designs that wont hurt flow but will hlep to quiet it down.

Dynomax makes one called a "bullet", it's basically a straight through muffler that has a perforated inner pipe like a glass pack, only with true holes instead of louvers. I think it's packed with fiberglass.

If you have a drill and welder, you can make your own presilencer by drilling holes in a 2" pipe, wrapping a lot of steel wool around it, and slipping a 3" pipe over it and sealing the ends. The FD owners call this type of presilencer a "resonated midpipe" and claim it works pretty well for taking the drone out of their cars.

Interesting... hadn't thought of that...

Nice idea, but I'd give the fibreglass about 2 mins at the temps my header will be blowing out...

Hmm... That's not a bad idea! I have a bunch of Stainless steel wool. I was (a long time ago) going to hollow out my cat and stuff it with the stuff...
