Smile Friends uncle does ceramic coating...

I have no idea what type of work this guy does, but I potentially have a "homey hook-up". Is it worth getting some rotor housings ceramic coated?

I've heard the rumors of "that one place in Canada" who does this for rotor housings, but could it be trusted to someone with little or no experience?

No big deal, just thinking out loud...

You could get your rotors ceramic thermal barrier coated, but NOT your housings. No one coats housings in ceramic. Ceramic COATINGS generally are not used as load bearing or wear surfaces. The housing coating your thinking of is CERMIT, a totally different substance and applied totally differently.

thats CERMET (ceramic-metallic alloy), but he is right. however, if you have the opportunity, it isnt a horrible idea to throw a coat of it on the rotors... might give you a bit more efficiency.

My surface temps after a august 1/4 mile run on my coated turbo manifold, and turbine housing were 377*, on my uncoated DP it was 633*. I'm firm believer in coatings. I also have my Intake manifold fully coated. stuff looks great.

Nice, thanks for the info guys. I guess I misunderstood what I read about the alleged "ceramic coating"... lol.

I probably won't go to the effort of "making contact" with this guy and seeing if he'll coat my rotors (for free).

I thought coating the rotors was bad because it doesnt allow heat to soak into the oil and carry it away from the rotors? I thought you wanted to remove heat from chamber and it was done via the rotors into the oil.

no, you want the heat to stay in the exhaust gasses, and therefore give them more energy to expand and make power. this also lets you run a slightly leaner mixture, and keeps your block temperatures cooler.

the point of cooling systems are to keep the working parts of the engine cool so that they dont break. if you put in a heat barrier, then you elimintae some of the need for that.

Thanks
