Porting & Welding LIM

We've been gasket matching the UIM and LIM on an RE engine. The LIM intake gasket matches the engine ports extremely well, but matches the intake horribly. Were going to attempt to port the LIM to the gasket but are worried about running into the EGR (not sure if this term is correct) passages. Does anybody have experience with this? We are also throwing around the idea of welding up the EGR passages on the LIM to keep the exhaust from entering the intake and heating up the intake charge. Any experience with this or recommendations?

Right idea.....but that's not the correct way you should go about it. But it will help you none the less!

Looks like we seem to have the same problems, together! I'm actually going to use my 3layer metal gasket from the FD and enlarge the underside intake hole.

If an engine is assembled thats all you can do. The correct way is to pull the exhaust sleeves and weld the holes shut.

I don't like welding the LIM, I usually just make tapered pieces, push them in and expoxy the rest of the gap like below..

Any problems with the epoxy holding up to the exhaust temps?

I welded the unused passages on both my UIM and LIM, removed the EGR passages (I had a lot of extra time), Extrudehoned, then polished. On the engine, I machined aluminum block-off plugs for the EGR ports in the rotor housings and locked them in place with roll pins (I'm using FD housings).
