PICS and info from the PRI Show in Orlando???
Did anybody go to the show?? Curious to see what is in the making for the the Rotary engine.. I heard something about CNC Billet rotors made to whatever compression ration you want that where 4lbs less than OEm FD rotors.. Is this true? Pics please.. I also know GURU was there with all their cool new race stuff... Info and pics please...

The rotor has been under development for some time now. It's made by a very good friend of mines here in Miami. I know Guru will be supplying the gears for it. Also compression ratios are going to be tested. Now for the good part it's around 6lbs without all the machining done.
Check out some of the other cool stuff that he makes.--->

I was there yesterday, still too many carburators and roundy round cars of all kinds. Oh well, its NASCAR's world and we just live here.
As I was leaving I saw a group of guys talking and one was putting what looked like an aluminum rotor in his bag. It didn't look big enough to be a real one but it was made in a CNC machine and was probably used as a show and tell piece.

I only saw it for about 1/2 a second as it went in the book bag, I was walking with a few guys from a Grand Am Mustang team and I went nuts when I saw it. They looked at me like I was just another rotary weirdo.

Stuff looks good ..... Rohan has got some great things in the pipe line, and those rotors look promising too
i know these parts are still in the development stage and more R&D has to be done on these parts but im sure someone could answer this question...would aluminum be able to withstand the heat of the cumbustion chamber without melting? maybe they plan on coating the surface with some sort of ceramic material to prevent direct heat from affecting the aluminum? someone? anyone?

Rotaries have poor thermal contact from the rotor to the water jacket, which is why they rely so much on oil cooling. Those rotors don't seem to have oil passages. Hmm. Drag-only, or not milled out yet?

Its not what I would be making them from personaly but thats just me

A friend of mine was in discussion with racing beat about doing metal matrix rotors but due to horrendous costs this is not viable given how much you would need to sell to recover costs.
expansion rate
I know Edgar from E&J Autoworks and this is one of the big topics about this part. Aluminum's melting point is about 1000 degrees, so about the part melting is impossible. I think the oil seals and the apex will melt before the rotor will. The expansion is going to be a tough issue and he knows this. I believe that he has an engineer working with him and he think that he could do it. He has been in contact with some top fuel people and the tech. is there. He says that if top fuel can make there aluminum piston work, he can make the rotor work. They will be testing in the next few month. I wish him all the luck and i believe that if someone can do it he can.

The first ones being done are for a 12A and the test bed is sitting and wating.

The first challenge is to determined growth/expansion rate so as to get the dimensions correct. Only actual testing will determined that.
Aw man, I posted a thread in the SE section to see if anyone was gonna be there. I saw Guru's booth there, and lots of cool stuff I cant afford. Yea lots of roundy round stuff but lots of nice fabricators showing their wares among other things. Well I'll try here next December.
