ok to use methanol ?

I have 25 litres of methanol sitting here to use with my water injection.
But Ihave been advised not to use it as it will cause pitting as i's too corrosive!
Has anyone run water/methanol mix and come accros any probs yet? as I have
never heard of this myself!

cheers

It will dry out any rubber it contacts and its' combustion products are corrosive. Use isopropyl alcohol or ethanol. You'll find most windshield washer mixes are now isopropyl due to the rubber deterioration issue. Also fuel "deicers" use isopropyl alcohol for the above reasons. Some premium gasoline use up to 10% ethanol, and that provides an octane boost as well as a "fuel deicer" function.

Aquamist pumps don't like methanol, but the engine won't be perturbed in the concentrations you are running.

20-30% mixed in with the water in the WI tank will help reduce intake temps above plain water, so will help.

Thanks for advice.
I'll run a 70/30 water/methanol mix.
I don't run aquamist, I have a modified shurflow pump.
Cheers

Ethylene Propylene (EP) elastomers and seals hold up well with methanol. Methanol tends to eat up most other elastomers. Good luck finding an EP pump.
