Nitrous with Rotary

guys I've got an RX-8 and I want to install a Nitrous kit on it, but it's my first rotary car and I'm not sure how nitrous performs with a rotary engine. The guys in the Rx-8 forum are to scaried to try and put a nitrous kit on their cars so far, so I figured I'd ask you guys guessing you had experience with it. So please someone who has installed Nitrous on a rotary vehicle, I'm aware that the renesis engine is differnet, but I just curious how it preforms on other rotary engines. What are the limits on shot size with various engines, should I use a wet or dry system, how does the engine preform with it, and how hard is it to install? And any other info you can and wish to provide and any suggestions are welcome thanks.

Have you done a header/exhaust/intake combo yet?...if not , don't even think of squeezing that thing. Nitrous on rotaries is ALWAYS in low doses unless the motor has been build to handle it.

I ran a 50 shot on my n/a with only bolt-ons for 30+ passes down the strip. Few of my friends ran the same setup as me (some w/ a 75 shot) for a while, none of us have had any problems. Where do people get these rumors about no nitrous on a rotary?

I'm not saying no nitrous...buy you can't shoot 150 without SERIOUS ignition and apex seal work...that is if you want the engine to live very long. A 75 shot seems to be what most use.....unlike the V8 and Honda boys running 200+.

probably should invest in some headers before you do the nitrous. The engine must be able to breath very well. Then go for a 50 shot. You might wanna find a way to retard your ignition a bit as well.

The only thing I can think about after hearing this is the returnless fuel system of the RX-8. It's probably something you should think about before throwing on a kit.

Do a search.

Search user name, JudgeIto

He has a thread about nitrous and Iam sure their are many other threads on this subject also.

Also go to Mazspeed.com they have a nitrous forum and most of the people on that site usually know what they are talking about.

Also, use a wet system! N2O is more air and more air means you need more gas! Unless you use the dry and do what you got to do to get your FI, to give the engine more gas? Which, to me (non-nitrous/FI expert) sounds like mo' money?

Hey, just wondering since you've done things to your 8. I've read that, and it makes sense to me, due to the way the exhaust ports are on the renesis that headers will not make much, if any, difference. Let us know if that's true.

yeah I don't even think they make any headers for it, The exhaust and intake ports are why we are having so much trouble with turbochargers that's why we're looking for power any way we can get it, and some people said the way it works on N20 one rotor gets more power than the other this new engine is just hell for after market parts

On an FC or newer car, no apex seal work or ignition work (other than maybe dialing the old CAS back a few degrees for really big shots) is required for 150 hp shots in my experience.
I've pushed well passed 200 total hp shots on stock apex seals and stock ignition systems with zero problems.

Honda's pushing 200+hp shots, with engine longevity?

Yeah Ito, I know of your project. I am one of your fans on the RX-8 side of the club. I believed you the whole time man, there are just alot of guys over there that think they know everything and hate being told they are wrong. It has happened alot to lots of peole since you have be gone even to my self. I don't really like it on that side of the forum to much, but there are alot of people on that side that do believe you about your build, stick up for you, and appreciate your work.Since you posted that you ported your 8's engine I have been wanting to do the same but only a street port not a bridge port, which is what I believe you did. But some people have tried this and haven't had much sucess. Are you still writing that article for RX Tuner? Anyway Thanks Judge Ito. Right now I am doing the same setup of a 55 wet shot of ZEX nitrous that Charles R. Hill did. It has taken a while since I have been building a complete Fiberglass box in the trunk that holds the bottle. I puting the purge and purge light in the driver side fender vent and mounted the arming and purge switch in the ash tray, put it in first and no one even sees me move for the switch. It's a nice setup. Hopefully I will have it dynoed byt he end of next week. I should have some impressive gains since I installed SR pulleys and SR high flow CAT and the Nitrous since my last dyno.
