Newb to rx7 but I want one few questions!
As of right now I have a vw passat (its a tank on wheels, but it still fast for a 4 door). Right now its for sale and im planning on getting a rx7 with low miles, no mod's.
First, I would like to go with a single turbo conversion, but I don't know which one is right for me. I don't wanna go with anything to big so I dont have to mess with the internals on the motor.
Secound, I would like to go with a big intake manifold, and once again I dont know which one to go with.
Third, Ive been reading through the forum and see alot of people talking about porting and polishing, what does this do for the motor? and hard is it to do, what does it require.
Im sure im going to have many more questions but ill save those for later
Thanx

I think you need to slow down there and learn a little bit about modifying 3rd Gen's. Here's a good place to start:
https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/faq-3rd-gen-other-useful-links-68640/
Next, if you want to make power on a 3rd Gen, you just need two things:
air & fuel
So, you need a turbo capable of the power you want and then you need fuel to support that amount of CFM flowing through the system. To control both, you need the proper control (i.e. aftermarket programmable ECU).
Making big power "reliable" is another quest all on it's own. Visit the Single Turbo section and see what mods are producing what power:
https://www.rx7club.com/single-turbo-rx-7s-23/post-your-single-turbo-setup-33502/
It's not a cheap process, good luck!

I agree with Mahjik. Look up on the forums to learn more about the engine before you set your goals. I got my rx7 about a year ago, bone stock and i would recommend that you stick with the stock twins for right now. But upgrade the AST tank, radiator, spark plugs, spark plug wires, the fuel pump, intake, and the ecu. Im happy with this for right now. Oh, and make sure you have a boost guage, and to answer some of your questions, 1) Single Turbo? It depends on how much power you want and where you want the power band. You said apx. 400whp. If your gonna be spending a lotta time at the drag strip, then get something good sized, like a T66. Dont go and get a T88. They can produce a lot of power, but its ALL on the top side with a lot of lag on the low end. Not good for drag. For the street a T88 might be what your looking for, but remember, there is lag. Without touching the internals, you wont see above 350whp. 2) Intake Manifold? If you can, try and buy the JDM intake manifold. It flows more cfm, but removes some of the emmissions. So unless you know someone that does inspection, you may have a hard time getting it to pass. 3) Port and Polish? Porting and polishing refers to the intake/exhaust ports on the rotor housings. Its a LOT harder than it would be on a normal piston engine. With the rotary, you will need to pull out the engine and basically dissasemble it. Now would be a good time to rebuild the engine and put in 3mm seals (so it can hold 350+ whp). Porting and polishing the intake/exhaust ports will help the engine breath better, which means, more incoming air, more exhaust, more boost capabilities= what you want. This is to be done by a shop. DO NOT TRY AND DO THIS YOURSELF. 4)Stock Turbos? The stock turbos can hold up to apx. 350 whp. Thats what I gathered from the people Ive talked to. So if you really want that 400+ whp, youre gonna need to go single.

Slow down there buddy thats alot of info in a small space. And not all of it correct. Lets just say #1,#2, and #3 are little mis-leading at best.
For the new guy: Read everything before you even think of buying a single mod. Listen to the advice of senior members, and start saving Rotaries are alot of fun but not cheap.

Anyway, about the most you'll see from the stock twins is about 380rwhp. There have been people to make it to 400rwhp on the stock twins but they are more in the minority than the majority (keeping in mind a stock healthy FD dyno's around 220rwhp).
