New stronger seals from mazda!?!

I'm 99.9% sure that mazda has done all of us a big favor, and are now making a stronger factory apex seal. They are 2 piece, yes 2 piece!! just like the older 12a's and 84-85 13B. They are 2mm like usual, and slightly oversized in length. The new number is #n351-11-100C
and it replaces all of the apex seals from 86-95. Seem to be much stronger looking, maybe more detonation resistant? I will try to post a pic of them as soon as possible, as I just recieved a set yesterday for my rebuild. I think mazda is making them machined like the Rx-8 to cut down on machining costs, since the rx-8 uses 2 piece seals as well. Just thought I'd let you all know
And I also tried to get the old 3 piece, from the place I get my parts, and they are no longer made. The new number replaces all the old numbers for apex seals 86-95.

I haven't heard anything like that, but if you are right, do you know if they are installed on the 99 spec FD?

Wasn't the debate not about 2pc vs. 3pc, but 2mm vs. 3mm? (All iron 3mm are 2pc...)

Crikey, this might turn into a debate about a debate. I give up.

I thought I needed a set of two piece seals for my 20B uh six months ago. I'll just go easy on the three piece ones for a while I guess. Then I'll have the sloppy apex slots machined for 3mm seals.

How much doest it cost to have seals machined from 2mm to 3mm on a fc and about how long (ballpark range) would my baby be out of commission?

I'm hearing that the new Mazda 2pc 2mm seals are junk. This is from a few Mazda performance shops here in Japan. Any good/bad coments from the other side of the pond. Cost of one seal here is 30$ from Mazda.

I've heard the same thing over here in UK from my tuner.
Seems a bit of a rash decision by Mazda to discontinue 3pc.
