Red face Need opinions on 13b RE build/price

I was shopping around for an engine builder for my fc 13bt(nothing wrong with my motor) when i meet this tuner that said that i should scrap my motor and puchase a RE. A built one w/ ahole list of mods . my power goals are between 500-450 on 100 octane Shell v-power(germany)pump gas. He`s asking $4,300 . The mod lists goes like this;(Do I need all of this)

RE motor w/o turbo,ecu,harness
S6 housing
Dowel pin block
3mm apex seals
larg street port
stage two oil jets
high fow oil pump
race bearings
clearance rotors
ceramic coating on rotors
Sorry for the long post just wanted to make I wasn´t gettig robbed or being feed BS.

You got $4,300 just burning a hole in your pocket?
If you're thinking about refinancing your house to get this motor, don't bother.

Is this flywheel power you're talking about?
Do you already have the stand-alone EMS?

Kouki7even, this is RETed's method for making sure that you are not being a retard. It sounds like you are in the military, so I know the deal, and it IS most likely that you DO have $4,300 just burning a hole in your pocket, as you SHOULD for putting up with all that BS. Anyway, as RETed stated, this is all money wasted, so don't spend it if it will put a crunch on your finances, especially since your current engine works just fine. I have added some of my concerns below:

It will take a very good tuner to make 450-500hp with the stock turbos, and you will need a good intercooler (about $1,200 USD). Even a "Plug&Play" EMS will not tune itself. So, is this "tuner" guy going to tune the engine to your hp goal, or just sell you the engine and leave you hanging? If tuning isn't included, plan on spending an additional $500-2000 USD for professional tuning. Also, it would probably not make you very happy to buy the engine, and then find out from the next tuner that it is missing some critical components, which would require either rebuilding the engine or reducing your hp goal.

BTW, Germany uses a different octane rating system than the US. That V-Power gasoline is about 93 octane when converted to the US standard. I just don't want you thinking that it is somehow better than US pump gas because it carries a "100" octane rating. However, some of the more liberal US states do require certain downgrades to gas to meet environmental standards, so V-Power can be as low as 90 octane in these regions.

A 13B-RE has different engine mounts. Is this "tuner" going to install the engine, or at least supply custom mounting brackets for you?

The ECU and harness are worthless, but what are you going to do about the turbos? There's another hidden $500-6,000 USD, depending on what you choose.

I guess I don't quite understand the need for this. Is this some new drag racing thing?

If you are going to use stock RE turbos, I would check with Chris to see if the Wolf can sequence them like it can sequence the REW turbos. If it can, then the Wolf would absolutely be the way to go, assuming that you have access to a Wolf tuner. Otherwise, I would recommend that you use whatever EMS is preferred by whoever you pay to tune your car, even if it can't sequence the turbos like the Wolf. Even the EMS products that I don't really like have had great success on rotary engines, so you really can't go wrong with any choice of EMS as long as you have somebody to tune it.

Bottom Line:
My point of view is that you should find a good rotary shop where you can drop off your car and come back in a few weeks with your money and drive away with your 450-500hp car. This way both the price and performance are stated to the customer and the business, and the business is held responsible for meeting these goals. Buying various parts and pieces in the hope that they will work is not a good idea, and could end up in an uncompleted project and thousands of dollars down the drain.

Do you really care what brand of EMS, what kind of porting, what kind of doweling, etc., are used, just as long as your car meets your goals? Quite frankly, I could care less, and I think it is better to let the professionals decide these things for the most part.

For the amount of money you're willing to spend on an engine, I would serious look at a 20B...
