Monza exhaust, I must vent.

I am surprized at all the negitve comment about this exhaust system. Let me tell you why.....................
I purchased my 89 vert new. I think it was 92 or 93 when I realized ,way to late, that my stock exhaust was dead. So I found out a stock replacement would run me $700 to $1000!!! whoa. Ok I start calling some RX-7 buddies and they turn me on to APEXi, HKS, and MONZA, (i also learned of how restrictive the stock system was) Didnt like the sound of the APEXi kinda grating. My cousin had a full HKS sysyem(no cats) nice sound but LOUD. Then of course the prices were $400 for the HKS to $700 for the APEXi, Well no thanks.
This left me with the other three guys I new who ran with MONZA cat-back exhausts, one had no cats the other two did. I like the sound of the MONZA's like a V8 low and powerful. I went with it and have stayed with MONZA ever since. The first one last till '97. Replaced cats with a Bönez 2.5" Race Pipe with presilencer and a new MONZA cat-back system and it looks great and sounds awesome. With 112,000 miles on my vert this last exhaust system still look in good shape and still sound great.
Sorry to vent like this but this a=has been a good product for me and its odd to see so much bad about it.

Monza (Pacesetter) headers have been proven to actually LOSE power over the stock manifold, because of the way they crimp the two pipes together. It's not been dyno proven as far as I know, but their Y-pipe for the FC is the same way - the exhaust ends up having to flow through a roughly 1.5-2" hole.

odd

My 'Y' was wide open split and the welds were top notch. Your right though the stock manifold seems to work best none of before after dynos I've seen have shown much gains thru any header.

I don't know about on the FC, but on the FD we did a swap at our local club dyno day with before and after pulls. Old exhaust was a Pacesetter, new was a Racing Beat. The new exhaust put down 8 hp more. This was proven on the dyno at Rotary Performance.

yeah

I know theres always going to be a system that can give you more power but the Pacesetter Monza is only $300 sounds great has been long lasting on my FC and with the money I saved the NOS system more then makes up for any lose in power. I guess its just both sytems I've purchased have been rock solid and I cant believe they only made good systems for me

You're crazy if you think a quality header won't give you power over the stock manifold.

Also, I have owned Pacesetter catback and header (two different cars), and I wound up throwing both of them in the scrap pile at my brothers work, and putting stock parts on. Both times each car was faster.

White Trash would have been deep into the 14's if I'd bought a RB header instead of the POSetter header

I've got a borla on my FC, it cost me $500.00. Maybe it doesn't make as much power in the uper RPM's like the fart cannons, but it did improve performance. It also sounds great. The best thing about it, is its complete SS. And comes with a Million mile warranty.
Monza is crap, the dual tips look bad, and the things rust like theres no tomorrow. If you would have got a Borla or something else SS, you would have saved yourself the headache of having to replace you system every few years.

yea i buy a ton of stuff with super long warranties for my rx,
i used love going in to trade in my flowmaster every 4-5 months from blowing the rear seam apart

i only bought it cause i knew id get new ones everytime i blew one apart,
i used to do the same thing with a luk clutch.
finally i got the final clutch, never put it in,
sold it and bought a racing beat street/strip hd,
but will be pulling the luk scam again very soon till i can afford another rb clutch

I'm sure your correct, but read this forum, ask the guys at RX-7.com, MAZDATRIX.com and everyone agrees thats the last thing you should mod. The guys at RX-7 dont seem to think that you gain that much HP overstock, and since NO one has posted proof of this its a mute point.
