How Much to Have Rotors Lightend?

Well everyone, how much does it cost? And do the rotors have to be taken to a rotary shop like Pineapple and such, or could it just be done by a machinest like my step-dad?

I've seen them for sale new, but I have never heard of someone lightening stock rotors. racing beat sells them for $1318.00. They recommend using one of there shafts that was designed to be used with the light rotors.

For $2200, they have super lightweight rotors. I Its the stock S5 rotors and they use a CNC machine to take them from 9.7lbs to 8.7 lbs. I dont' think they will do it to used rotors, but you can call and ask.

Does anyone else know the degree of difficulty in doing this? Would like to know if I could get my step-dad to just machine them and have PR balance the e-shaft/counter weights.

I don't know about the balancing part, but I also know that Rob at Pineapple Racing does it. I can't tell you where exactly he removes so much weight, but he removed over 2lbs from my mazda comp. 12a race rotors I had in my 12a Peripheral port. CJ

I don't remember exactly. You'll probably just have to call and ask him. I do know he's alot cheaper than RB! CJ

If you get hold of him, let me know what he says! Ask abotu clearancing while you're at it (I hate calling people who could be conductiong business about things I won't be doing for a little while)

1Fook, lighter rotors = faster revs, and less rotating mass (more HP to the wheels)

Yeah I will probably just go down there, I don't mind the 45 minute drive to talk to Rob in person, and that way I won't take him away from his work.

no more, no less. They take material from pretty unstressed areas.

I recently rebuilt a 13B bridgeport rally engine, and its rotors had been lightened by removing almost all the side faces tp depth of about 1/4". Just enough material was left to support the side seals and oil seals. It was rebalanced by drilling around the bearing support. I measured one as having 370 grams removed off stock.

No, don't have time right now, working a lot and my car is taking the rest of the time, still don't have it back on the road.
But if Mazdatrix finds that Renisis rotors will work in our engines then this will be moot, as these rotors weight about as much as a lightend rotor and have higher compression.

But you have more to buy than just the rotors. The rotor seals are different this time around. You'd pretty much need the rotors & 2 rotor kits. Should be a little over a grand to have renesis rotors in a non-renesis engine.
