Question How to get a good 60' time from an FD?

I'm curious as to what people are doing to their FD's or what launching techniques are being used to get good (1.9 second or less) 60' times. My first 2 passes with my newly 5 speed converted FD on Nitto 555R Drag Radials (@22psi) got me 2.3 and 2.25 60' times. I was launching around 3250 slipping the clutch (ACT Street/Stip) and I was still getting an insane amount of wheel hop. Should I lower the air pressure? Launch at a lower RPM? What about suspension mods or setup? TIA!

I've heard that Jimlab differential bushings help alot with the wheel hop. I too am trying to get the low 60' times. I have not been to the track yet but I know that my 97 GSX gets a hell of a lot better 60' times then my FD. I have been trying launches from 2500-3500 and I seem to have better luck at the higher RPM's and slipping the clutch then I do at low RPM's becasue I keeep my car in the powerband from the launch. I tried dumping it but got mad wheel hop and then it bogs down a ton. It's amazingly difficult I think to launch these cars.

All the really fast rotary drag cars (and every one else, actually) uses a Ford 9" rear end...

Easy Solution...

Mickey Thompson Street Et's.
Nice soft tire. I have NEVER felt wheelhop with these.

As for using drag radials, I have heard that the Pettit Launch kit will help.

I get 2.005-2.1 sec regularly with my FD. I run my auto-x tires (Kuhmo V700) down to about 22psi and slip the clutch slightly with about a 4500rpm launch. I hardly ever get wheelhop and when I do it is minor.

My TII has a best of 1.982 sec '60 time using the same method. Also little to no wheel hop. This car has Mazdacomp motor mounts if that makes a difference.

Both cars have a ACT street strip clutch. The Kuhmos are sticky but the sidewall is stiff so they aren't ideal for drags. I think the key is to not dump the clutch and try to keep the tires from spinning. I do just a little burnout to heat the tires up some. Not a big smoky burnout, just a little smoke.

If you MUST use the Nitto drag radials. Drop the air pressure to 15psi, do a healthy burn-out and launch at around 4800.
The best drag radial is the BFG. Very sticky. I average a high 1.6 60' with them. Same thing, drop the air pressure to 15lbs, healthy burn out and launch at 5800rpms.
Using Mickey Thompson ET streets I average a 1.5 60' launching at 7000rpm.

What size of BFG's do you use. I only show a 255/50/16 BFG Drag Radial for the stock rims. The Nitto 555R's are available in the stock 225/50/16 size. I know the BFG's would fit but I assume that they would cause a slight variation in the gearing due to the larger size. Slowing the RPM's down and throwing off the speedo and tach a little.

I have 17" wheels so it didn't pose an issue. I have 275/40/17's in the rear...I forgot you have stock wheels.

When i was running at ennnis i had 2.1 60 foot times on some crap tires but it is all in how you do it i guess. I did a small burnout, then reved to about 4500 and just dumped her and off i went pretty smooth if i say so my self. i had the tires down to 20 psi and on the stock syspension at that.

That's incredible! Do you mind sharing some of your secrets on getting such a great time? Tires used, pressure, suspension setup, etc..
