HMIC setup???
Seems the JDM tuners are onto this of late. However, I see getting a duct to get good flow to the face of the IC as a major obstacle. Knightsport's solution is to do a V-mount where the radiator's rear most portion is "V'd" at the rear most part of the IC as well. That way the incoming air can go "up" to the IC and "down" towards the rad. Also, a vented hood of some kind will reap more benefit for this design.
I would say the HMIC main benefit seems to be low pressure drop due to the minimal piping. However, the other issues with this solution may offset its benefits. Get a nice SMIC like M2's and be done with it. Or if showing what you got is a criteria, FMIC like GReddy 3 Row, Blitz, A'PEXi, etc are quite nice (beware of rock/debris damage + slight blockage of air to rad).
I have a CWC SMIC and it's huge. I'm a fan of SMIC.
