help building motor in a 82gsl
hey guys i'm fairly new to rotays and i bought a 79 about two months ago but i hit a mini van and totaled it but i got a 82 gsl because i really liked my first one so i was wanting to know what are some engine mods i can do that aren't to expencive that will give a boost in power i think the only thing that is done to it right now is a borla muffler which sounds good but i want to get the whole racing beat exaust when i get the extra money thanks for the help. i want to get in to the 160-170hp range so i can keep up with my friends turbo miata but any hp will help for now.

welcome, dude.
well, you're doing the right thing by starting with the exhaust. yes, a full exhaust system - rather than just a "loud muffler" is the way to go. if RB doesn't make you happy, then you probably need reconsider your goals.
there isn't an awful lot of things else to do, but you do have some pretty good options if state emissions are not an issue in North Carolina. a Sterling/Carl-modified Nikki or aftermarket carbie (Weber, Holley, etc.) would probably be the next major purchase. other than that, it's a matter of fine tuning (ignition, mixtures, etc.). do these before building a motor.
by the way, you're not going to get 160 to 170 HP on stock-ported 12A - so forget it.

hey thanks for the advice i know i cant get a lot of power with out proting the engine but at the moment it is my only form of transportation at the moment so i can't really tear down the engine to port it right now and i wouldn't want to do that big of a job by myself right now anyway i have a friend whos dad owns a shop so he could probably help me later but i couldn't do it right now. thanks
p.s. the borla muffler is actualy got a pretty low hum to it so it dosen't have the stupid ricer sound
