HELP! 2nd Gen turbo-two motor into a 1st gen, possible?

I was wonding if it's possible to swap in a 2nd gen turbo-two motor into a 85 1st gen. I pretty sure there is enough space, but I'm not sure as far as wiring. I also know that the engin mounts are not in the same place. I was wonding if anybody had any experiance with this type of swap. Anything will help. If anyone knows of any conversion kits such as engin mounts and wiring goes, it would be helpful. Please post a response here or you may email me.

thanks,

Lil'stan

Short answer: Yes.

Longer answer: Search the 1st gen forum. Several people have done it. There is some general information on Felix Miata's site: http://mrmazda.no-ip.com/

I have one: http://www.cris.com/~Asam/Res7/Res7.html However, I don't do my own work, so I can't provide step-by-step instructions. If you want to save some work, you can buy mine.

Yep, George is right. From what I understand, it's a fairly simple installation motor-mount wise with the GSL-SE 1st gen model. I think it may even be a bolt-in but I could be mistaken. A buddy of mine did it several years ago with the 1st gen stock drivetrain. It may behoove you however to use the Turbo II drivetrain in its stead.

first of all, welcome. familiarize yourself with the Gen I section. i promise just about everything you need will be there several times over.

getting the engine in the car is the easy part. i mean that. all you need is a Gen I front cover and SE oil pan. the SE front cover is better simply because it allows for use of all the OMP lines and alignment of the oil pan, but a 12A front cover works, too, with some minor work to it. you will also need to modify or purchase a mounting bracket, but that's all you need to get the engine seated. it's a bolt-in affair. period. some people try to make it into quantum theory or rocket science ...

as for wiring, i don't see a point doing a swap like this and using the stock ECU, but to each his own. that will be the time consuming part of your swap. if you're serious about this and you get the part where the engine is in, then you may want to shoot a PM to the user steve84gs tii, he has great example of a T2 swap and he's been proven willing to help others. however, if you're only going to waste his time don't bother saying i told you. i don't want to be a part of that.

good luck.
