heh, crazy idea

anyone ever thought about magnetic apex seals or something magnetic to keep from broken apex seals sloshing inside of engines breaking everything?

Heat demagnetizes iron (and virtually all other materials). If you magnetized the steel apex seals, they would be demagnetized within a couple seconds of running the engine.

Not to mention the reciprocating forces would far exceed any magnetic forces that could be instilled into such a small piece of iron...

Not only that, but IF you had seals somehow super-magnetified so that they could overcome internal forces and stay in the rotor if they broke... then they would not extend out of the rotor to meet the rotor housing, and you'd have no compression.

Interestingly, lots of times the rod bolts and even connecting rods in a boinger start to get magnetized after a while.
