Good ngine builders

Does anyone have a suggestion for a reputable engine builder (need street port and basic reliability mods done)?

One of, if not the best is pinapple racing. May be a bit fdar for you but Rob can help with shipping which surprisingly is not very expensive.

You are pretty close to Texas so you may try Steve at Gotham Racing. There are several reputable builders in DFW but Steve is the only one I know personally.
Pineapple has a great reputation as well.

Hey Overboost3, PM me. I'm going to New Orleans in a few days to do a job on an FC installing a Haltech E6K and rebuilding/porting a 13B 4-port motor for it. If it's in the same area, I'd love to accomodate if you've got the parts already for it.

You may wan't to take Brian (BDC) up on that offer. He builds bas *** motors. At least the 11 second TII of Tony's is a bad mo-fro that I have personally seen run.
A lot of DFW people will tell you the same thing.

Thanks, Mike.

Let me know, Ovrboost3. I'm scheduled to go this coming weekend and if you're not too far from New Orleans I'd love to swing by and give you a hand for a couple days if need be.

BDC, how are you able to fly around rebuilding and working on other people's cars? do u depend on their tools and workshop/garage supplies? or do u bring your own tools?

I was wondering the same thing. At the Gotham party I asked Tony why you were not there and he said that someone had flown you out to work on their car? How often do you do that? Also I hope it paid real good because you missed a helluva good time

Sometimes I can bring my own stuff but obviously not all of the things I use all the time (engine stand, hoist, air tools, etc.) so on occasion I'll go somewhere and not have that availability. The last job I had was like that where I didn't build the engine and longblock on a stand and also didn't have access to my usual air tools. Otherwise, I can still get the job done. Sometimes I make the guy "renting me out" buy some of the stuff he needs.

Mike, I was in South Carolina working on a 10th AE w/ a Cosmo 13B-RE motor I was re-working. That's why I couldn't come out to Steve's party.

It's workin' pretty well. Last time I talked to him (last night) he was having a problem w/ his boost controller setup. He was also slated to go to the track. When I left, the motor didn't have enough miles on it so we couldn't do any higher load tuning. He is blessed enough to have a wide-band A/F unit so, with some guidance, he can tune it out himself to an extent. We'll see what happens with it.

Tony was up at Gotham tonite and I saw that big honk'n *** turbo he put on it. He said it spools a little slower of course but I bet it will keep pulling long after that other turbo went flat.
I bet you are looking forward to seeing what your "port job" will do in a 1/4 with a bigger turbo? I know I want to see it.

Absolutely, yes I am. One of these days I need to swing by your shop and show you what I do on some of that stuff, Mike. I need to pick your brain on some other things anyways. I brought up a thread on the Single Turbos section about exhaust manifolds and Rice Racing was kind and gracious enough to extend his expertise on the issue and share with me how to properly build and construct one for Tony's turbo. We're using an odd conmbination of stuff (HKS cast undiv w/ two spacers feeding into a divided turbine inlet) and I think that's atleast 50% of the "lag" issues.

By the way, If you need any spare rotor housings (while I'm thinking it about it), I've got one or two devil's clawed ones you can use to practice with. I may need the sleeves, though.

My shop? Hehe, that would be my garage. An incredibly cramped up garage. Tony brought up that he needed to have a exhaust manifold built. I mentioned one of the stainless like they were selling on Ebay for around $270. He said the angle the turbo would sit at would be wrong. It needs to be a little lower and angle more toward the fenderwell.
I still think a lot of time and headache could be saved by buying one of them and cutting the flange off and relocating the flange position. There is a lot more work to making one of that quality than alot of people may think.
