fuel computer on T2 with larger secondaries yes or no?

I have a 1st gen with a turbo 2 conversion. I am going to replace the secondaries with either 680 cc injectors from and SE or 720's. Will a fuel computer like the hks, blitz or Apexi one help in reliability? My mechanic says it wont' make much of difference. Also are they easy to tune?

mods for this year are:

rebuild with streetport
stock turbo
cartech fpr
bosch fuel pump
fmic
intake
3 inch custom turbo back exhaust with no cats (13-14psi)

last year on the stock motor made 270.8 rwhp at 13.5 psi on stock turbo and stock motor

My dyno sheet says Winpep Dyno Evaluation sheet. The actual dyno itself is Winpep. The website is www.dperacing.com

Any insight on my question?

At this point you might want to consider going with a stand alone ECU, from a cost-effective point of view.

Just upgrading from 550cc to 680cc wont make that much of a change especially if you plan on changing the turbo and turning up the boost (the regular rotaholic pattern).

how is a stand alone cost effective? for the power I will be making it is a headache and a waste of money. The stock computer is fine for 400 hp. all i will need in the future is an AIC like the SDS one and some extra injectors.

I know a guy who runs the stock computer with 4 additional 680's at 25 psi and runs mid to high 10's. Same motor all season. oh yeah he made 425 rwhp

anybody else's opinion?

It just shows how ignorant you are about stand-alone EMS units and how to tune them...

You asked for my opinion...

How is the stock FC computer able to make up to 400 hp? Looking at the RX7.com website and plugging in 100% on the injector duty cycles yields only a total of 317 flywheel HP. Is it being used with an aftermarket FPR to bump up pressure under boost or something cause I don't see how it could make 400 hp otherwise. I think your mechanic is a little off on the information he is relaying to you.

Reread that post VERY CAREFULLY...
I almost jumped the gun and assumed like you did.

Looks like they were describing stock 4x550 PLUS an additional 4x680 using some sorta AIC controller.

Sounds like John D.'s 10AE?

yes it was the stock injectors with 4 additional 680's controlled by an AIC. I guess I wasn't very clear about it.

RETed:

I never said I know how to tune stand alone's like haltech or electromotive or whatnot. I"m saying for the amount of power I want to make in my 1st gen I do not need a stand alone nor do I have the time and money necessary to do so. I do NOT need a stand alone to run anywhere between 280-330 rwhp with a turbo 2 motor.

And nobody still answered my original question !!!!!!!!grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I would suggest the Haltech F5 additional injector controller...and tap 2 or 4 additional injectors..
leave
the stock 550ccs...
yes it would make a difference in power but it is harder to tune by changing out yopur secondary injectors

but the stock system is soooo restrictive, and a stand alone is much more efficient... i know they're expensive but that what i would strive for. and YES the APEX'i S-afc will work for your application...But too many piggy backs will cause lots of Gremlins. Best of luck

have a look at a thread in the 20B section, they talk about the haltechs and microtechs, for cost/performance microtech seems the way to go.

to answer the original qeustion, i would highly suggest geting a fuel controler. i have 720s in my t2. berfore the AFC the car was slower and just threw tons of fire. it idled rough, and was a general pain to drive. the probem was that the ecu doesnt know the difference between 720s and the stock 550s. so it ran the 720s like it would 550s. esentialy stupid rich. with a fuel controler you will be able to adjust how much fuel the secondaries give yourself, acording to your other mods. making the car much more efficient and more powerful. my .02
