A complete kit is not available. I have one of only about 2 dry sumped 13Bs in the UK. Pace can supply the pumps and tanks but you need to have a mount made up.

Pip @ WGT is yer man although Carl would be able to sort you out as well if you are down south. If you are near Reading pop in and I can show you the way to do it properly.

Thanks Bill, i was really looking at the front cover type that mazda did or the mazdacomp. one not sure if it's available for the fd though. If i can't sort it i may just go the conventional route and mount a pump in the A/C postion.

I thought you had to have a new front cover for a dry sump....what other alternative is there???

Bill - Do you have any pictures or could you provide a good description of what it takes to do dry sump with the stock front cover?

Thanks

Yes there is the front cover type, actually yes it's a new front cover machined to incorporate the staged pump but i've only seen it for the distributor/CAS type 12a/13b engines so not sure if it's even available for the fd.
The other alternative is to use the more common way by using a conventional dry sump pump driven off the crank/e-shaft via a toothed belt and sprockets and mounting the pump in the original A/C position using a custom bracket, but i like the front cover type for it's compact and clever design....

You don't have to, it's just convenient. I've seen it done as rex u.k. described. Basically remove the oil pan and replace it with a flat plate. Hang your pressure/scavenge pumps on the driver side of the motor and then plumb all your lines externally. Requires some welding and fabrication to attach the lines to the motor but works fine.

No really good pics, as not been in garage recently, but due to whip engine out so can take more. It works and does what I want (allows the purple beast to run lower). With a turbo a 2 stage pressure pump would be better, as you can feed each bearing seperately, although I have not seen if this will actually fit.

So basically all you do is just hook up to the stock feed and return on the bottom of the engine and plate everything else off??? Then run the feed from the tank, to the pump, then to the stock return under the engine. Then run the return from the stock place under the engine over to the tank. Get a pump that runs off the crank.

Is that all there is to it???

Thanks,
Stephen

Ooops. pic 2 is upside down

Go to nopistons and seach for dry sump. Lynn Hannover posted some nice shots of his race setup there and was good enough to explain to me how the oiling system runs inside the engine.

Bill, have you ever had any problems with your setup? How would it do on a street car? Any concerns or problems?

Also, what pump are you guys using?

Thanks a ton,
Stephen

I haven't done enough miles to really tell you if there are problems. I use a pace pump as they are the only real supplier of DS systems in UK. the main reason for the install in my case was to lower the engine. Maybe one day I'll get a set of slicks for track use and will need the pump for its true purpose...

I'm 97% sure that is a standard Pace item, but would need to double check with them.

Is there any way to do this without buying a multi thousand $ front cover?

The only other way is the one previously mentioned, like how Bill has his.I think that would be the most economical way aswell.
