Do-It-Yourself Street Porting...
I'm about to pluck my 1990 GXL's 13b out for a rebuild, and I'd like to do my own street-port job. Is there a how-to, or tutorial somewhere that will give me a general idea of what I'm doing?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Well, I've found a few semi-promising sites here, but I'm looking for something a little more indepth. Does anybody have an already street ported housing that I could see some pics of? I'll post the links that I've found below for public benefit:

check out racing beat. they have templates for all kinds of ports. they have race and street sets i think. that would be a pretty good deal. im gonna do the same myself, i plan on yanking the motor this summer and doing the rebuild and port jobs myself. best of luck to you man, just dont hit that water jacket!!

Now I hear that I shouldn't open up my exhaust ports. Is the norm for a street port just to do the intake ports? And couldn't I just take some of the images on those pages I found, and then make my own templates using my printer?

unfortunately, u cant use the pics from the site. its cheap anyways, like $20 or $30 for both of them. and yes, i would port the exaust. u dont extend the size of it on the outside, you just make it equal diameter inside the houseing. it goes like this: in the housing, its a small hole, and it progressively gets bigger until u get to the end of the exaust port, then u see where u bolt up your headers. u want to leave the hole were you bolt up headers the same, u just want it to be uniform in all the way. under stand? heres a little pick, it might help:
(rotor) =O (headers)
see, its small, then gets big. so u want it like this:
(rotor) OO (headers)
(rotor) =O (headers)
see, its small, then gets big. so u want it like this:
(rotor) OO (headers)

Well, one of the sites (I don't recall which at this point) shows before and after pics of the intake port. Now if I was handy with the GIMP (Photoshop's Rival) couldn't I take a snapshot of my intake port, then make their "Before" shot of the intake port, and make it bigger/smaller until it matched up with my intake port pic. Then measure out my own templates using my results? And I coult probably wing-it on the exhaust ports if I'm just making the inside of the port as big as the outside. This can't be too hard to do.

You really should get a template or make one yourself... You will want to keep the port shape the same for both rotors for the best result, so a template is needed.
