Yeah adjuster is coming by this week. Bearings don't spin very often in these cars to say the least so it's no coincidence this happened so close to the oil pan incident. We'll see what they say. I have the receipt from the engine build but he may just say well here's $2200 for a reman. They don't seem at all interested in replacing anything aftermarket which IMHO seems slightly illegal to me. I may have to take it up with the Florida Insurance Commission. I just hope none of the plates or the bearing surfaces on the insides of the rotors are damaged. It would take much longer than I have to redo the entire engine. Might be game over.

Dude, you've never met my wife! She's one tough cookie. The car was delivered to the shop today. Hopefully the adjuster will be there within a few days.
Carlos was able to check his e-mail with a friend's computer and gave me a call late tonight. He's been working extremely long hours and does not have a computer where he is. He took the time to give me a buzz and help take some of the worry away. Great guy. We're going to pull the oil filter and check to make sure there are or aren't any metal shavings from the bearings. Won't do anything else until I check that. If there are, the engine has to come apart. Another option is to pull the tranny and flywheel and remove the rear stationary gear to check the bearing there. But the filter first.
Carlos also felt there's a possibility the oil pickup tube was damaged and it may have caused the pump to suck air instead of oil. That'll be checked after the filter.
Argued with the body shop today over painting my car. They painted the car back in 2002 and the paint is already failing on all the horizontal surfaces. Walked in to let them know it'd be down for a bit and the engine would be out, hence making it easier to paint the car and fix their mistakes. It was discussed previously and they had much unfinished work to do but didn't want to The shop's manager (mouthpiece) basically said they'd decided not to repaint it. The paint job comes with a lifetime warranty and he says they're not going to honor it. Unbelieveable! I gave the owner three days to call and explain and if no call came, I'd be seeing them in court. He said ok and I walked out. I immediately called the insurance company as they guarantee the work of their preferred shops. Even though I no longer use the company, they're looking into it.
The shop owner ended up calling a few hours later and said they'd honor all the stock body parts but not the fiberglass stuff. He then went over to look at the paint and told one of the mechanics he'd give me a deal and repaint the whole car for half the normal cost. Turns out that's $8,000. So for $4,000, he'll fix the paint his shop warranties for life. Ha! I'm going have a field day with this guy. Just keeps on getting better!

Sounds like a typical body guy, and as for the fishy insurance thing, they may have you. If you modified/upgraded the car and never got it re-appraised for the new amount, they aren't really liable. Sucks but you kinda can't expect them to keep a side of a bargain they were never aware of ,if you know what I mean. I hate insurance companies, they take and take and take, then fight it all the way when it's you turn.

Sorry about the car. I hope that everything can be fix, with no major problem$ along the way.
Carlos is making me an engine (13b PP w/renesis rotors).
I read your thread a few months back and even talked to carlos about using the same oilpan you used for my eng. but yours only can be use with the cosmo eng. so we are using the moroso.
I came across your thread today trying to get a hold of carlos. do you know when he'll be back from portland. I've been trying to get a hold on him all last week.
good luck

Yeah Carlos has been totally unavailable for the past week and will be so for at least the rest of this week. I honestly don't know what his timetable is but I do know he's really really busy with this project. I think I saws your rotors the last time I was in the shop!
Yeah the Xcessive pan works with the 13BRE and REW only.
As for the paint, all the body mods (side skirts, hood and nose) were done at the same time. I'd prefer that they redo the hood (one crack) but honestly, the nose nor the side skirts aren't much of an issue. It's the paint on the metal that's failing. We'll see what happens but it's definitely par for course for this guy.

Bit of an update and it's not good news....opened up the oil filter yesterday and there's definitely some bearing issues. Copper was found in the filter. Lots of it. So the motor has to come out and apart. Keep your fingers crossed and hope it's mostly bearings and not the e-shaft or rotors.

WOW !! talk about bad luck !!!!!
Sounds like your front main bearing is gone....hope damage is minimal.
Rotor bearings usually survive quite well if oil pressure loss was for a short time.
Good Luck

Been a long time since I posted as I've been travelling due to the recent hurricanes...the short of the story is all the "cheap" parts inside the engine were destroyed. That would be all bearings and the e-shaft (possibly could be polished out). Everything else is fine. Rotors, plates, housings. Waiting for the end of ALMS season at Laguna Seca and engine will be fixed by CLR. I've purchased an 05 Evo in the meantime to keep me entertained and mobile

[QUOTE= I might have to find a mod-friendly insurance company. When will they realize many aftermarket parts are actually LESS expensive than the stock pieces?[/QUOTE]
Never going to happen, unless your car was build before the 70's.
Are you water injected? That's another source of intake temperature drop.

Congrats on getting away with only damaging the "cheap" parts. Thats really good news! Will CLR be replacing the e-shaft with a standard FD one, or will they use an 84-85 13B shaft?
How goes the battle with the paint shop?

No water injection. Don't believe in it for a street car, especially if I can make well north of 400hp on pump. The lower compression ratio provides the "cushion". I need to move out to Portland! Air temps are a bit cooler there, LOL. Actually considering a move to the Oregonian if they'll have me.
We'll be using an FD shaft as I'm not spinning her that high (8500 at most) and the bearings are heavily modified for 4X the stock oil pressure levels around the e-shaft journals.
It's ALWAYS a battle with this auto body shop. I'm still waiting on a few pieces (RE-A nose from Pre-Auto and headlight pods from Chuck to go with my RE-A induction kit) and for the engine to go back in. The shop refuses to take the car until it's running. They say too many man hours will be used in pushing the car around. Um...ok. Whatever. If they want to play hardball, I'll play hardball. Tired of being nice with them. But....once she's all done, she'll look damn fine. I keep on debating the FEED widebody though.

I have read through this entire tread and it has taken me all of about 2hours (no joke).
The entire thread is like a story line its almost like a movie that I can play out in my head. The emotional swing I expirenced while reading this post was unpresidented (with other rotary stories).
I venture to say this about your bady shop...... my father once told me don't step on **** otherwise you will have **** on your shoe.... This may be funny but if you think about it, it may help you.... you have identifiead that your body shop is just that so maybe you should walk around it some how... My only concern is this.. owner of this body shop is as destressed about repainting your car as you... and so he is liable to get you back for all his troubles (which are his fault anyway) you have to remeber body people and painters are not actualy people. They are another life form below people. If they have the car with the engine in it what will stop them from really putting you through some more pain with a nice paint job on top (that will fail in another 2 years).... Just a thought I don't mean to worry you but I would be worried. I have been through everything you have just mentioned in you post and I feel for you...
also it seems odd that your bearings would have failed that fast due to oil starvation. I don't know how long you had the engine running after you lost your oil but unless the bearing tollerances were overly loose I don't see you killing your engine....
I don't know good luck man.
