burning oil on startup

Lately i've switched to Amsoil synthetic (about 2 months ago, using 10w-30 for winter) and have noticed some smoking on startup. I can't recall if the smoking started at the same time as i switched to synthetic, but i was wondering if this is typical? I figure it is as it's not consuming measurable amounts of oil, and it only smokes for about 10-15 seconds in the mornings after it's been sitting for a long time, then it's done and never smokes again for the rest of the day. (And yes, the smoke is gray, so i'm pretty sure it is oil.)

I figure it's just small amounts of synthetic seeping past the seals after it's been sitting all night and the seals have gotten cold. This seems pretty normal to me, but i just wanted to see if anyone else had a take on it.

Thanks.

(And please, no dino vs synthetic oil discussions. )
