Keep in mind that boost level also plays a part in the sound of the BOV. You aren't going to match the sound of a BOV going off at 25 PSI when you are at 10 PSI.

Rally cars don't *have* blowoff valves.
That "turkey sound" is compressor surge, and all it means is your BOV is too small to do anything really useful. Might as well not run one at all.

It must be the HKS or Greddy R.
The smaller Greddy BOV sounds like a bird. If you listen to the BOV sound in F&F movie, you'll hear it. It actually chirps between shifts. I hate it, but it's already on the car I own.
Anybody wanna trade HKS SSQBOV for a Greddy chirping BOV?

I think the bov you're talking about is the HKS race bov.
The HKS SS bov sounds more like a high pitched chirp.
But can someone answer this for me? After getting hard intake pipes, I've been hearing a weird noise from my bov. It sounds like that turkey gobbling bov sound as well. I didn't think that the HKS SS bov made that noise, only the Race.

why would the HKS race and Tial bov's make a turkey sound??? You shouldnt really have compressor surge probs with them.
Maybe they just take longer to open up and it causes compressor surge for a brief second....who knows

HKS is probably one of the quickest opening BOVs since it has two stage valves to quickly release both large and small amounts of boost. So much confusison on the BOVs and compressor surge hehehe.

I find the HKS SSQ has a squeaky fluttering type sound as the pressure dies down.
Speaking as a Euro, the one you are talking about that is on rally cars and cossies is more often than not a Bailey Motorsports DumpValve. Hear them every sunday night.

I'd prefer the sound of compressor surge to a blowoff valve anyway. BOVs only started getting used when the Japanese started using teeny tiny turbos for low end respose, which need to spin to crazy high RPM to generate enough internal velocity for a given pressure ratio... and they wouldn't want to risk losing any of the velocity between shifts, plus that turbo spinning soooo fast would have lots of rotational inertia at those levels.
Meanwhile, more sensible manufacturers used bigger turbos that didn't have to spin so fast, and they didn't need no stinkin' blowoff valve so they didn't come with one. (Go on, look at a stock Ford 2.3 and find the blowoff valve! Or a pre-Mitsu turbo Turbo Dodge)
