Talking Back from Etown and closer to 10's

Can't say I'm not trying.....

Got booted after the two runs....
Both on pump gas (w/ $10 of 100oct unleaded), Nittos drag tires and 18psi dropping to 16psi.

run#1=
60ft= 1.582
330= 4.632
1/8= 7.128
1/8 mph= 97.75
1000= 9.302
1/4= 11.11
1/4 mph= 125.38

run #2=
60ft= 1.588
330= 4.587
1/8= 7.080
1/8 mph= 97.22
1000= 9.257
1/4= 11.084
1/4 mph= 123.76

1st run Datalogit showed boost dropping to 1.12kg/cm2 while on 2nd run it dropped to 1.11kg/cm2.

These Nittos feel like slicks when I roast them......
Can't wait to go back for another shot.

Wouldn't putting the ET streets back on get you into the 10's? Why did u ditch them in the first place?

ET streets would probably given me the edge to break in the 10's.
60ft on Et streets has been from a 1.54 to a 1.60 but its a big tire for stock gears (26'+)...crossing the 1/4 in low 6krpm.
Last Sunday I menaged to get a 1.60 60ft on Nittos so I left them on to see if I could duplicate that 60ft........well, I did and menaged two 1.58 60fts so now my goal is to run 10's on Nittos drags and stock twins !!!

On Nittos I cross the 1/4 at higher rpm hence the higher traps (125 vs 123mph).
So If I 60ft a 1.60 or less I should have a good chance of running 10's on Nittos.....matter of getting my shifts on teh money.

WOW awesome 60' foots for Nittos!!!
damm I need install some adjustable struts

I bought a set of 255 BFG DR's recently and my first and only outing so far with them resulted in a best 1.63 60' Foot with stock suspension
after that pass I could not get consistant 60's foot

I feel you bro. I got booted today as well. Just trying to figure a way to make it launch on the cold track. It was about 50deg's here. I was on MT slicks. My second pass netted 11.54 @ 121.5 w/ a 1.80 sixty. I was stearnly warned after my first pass was 11.79. I didn't bother going back after the second one. I was running 15psi max on pump 92.

Great times. Keep it up.

Nice vid. Boostn7, how the heck do you get those 60's out of the Nitto's? How much air are you running?

I'd really love to run them but I'm concerned about wheel hop and traction.

you only get wheel hop if you don't have enough power to over come the tires attempt for traction=(wheel hop) lol

I got DR's and never get wheel hop
not even with plain street tires do I get wheel hop

11.7@118 on DR's
12.3@119 on Plain Tires

So I guess 408rwhp(that was in 104 deg amb temps) is not enough for 225x45r17 Kumho 712's? Maybe it's hopping when I'm in and out of it, searching for traction? Have to pay more attention next time on the street tires.

I've softened my Tokico's and it's fine on the street. I'll have to try the track again on the street tires. It never hops on the slicks at all. I alway's figured it was that soft wrinkle wall soaking it up. ?? I've just alway's been told that DR's agravate wheel hp.

Maybe your not taking off at enough of a high RPM?

I got stock suspension
I get a bit of wheel hop only when 1st starting the standing still burnout till I get higher in the RPM range
When I take off from the TREE, I either get real good traction or I spin the tires off the line
I also never dump the clutch, instead I slip the clutch
which could help with the wheel hop problem?

I try around 4k but the tires just immediately light up. What clutch do you have. I've got an ACT 6 puck. It's not very easy to modulate. I think I'm going to order some Nitto's and just work on dialing out the hop.

Boostn7, I am pretty sure that 11.08 is the best time anybody EVER got on the stock twins. And on drag radials!

Kevin Wyam ran an 11.13 a long time back but it was on upgraded twins.

That was an uncorrected time on a stock unported motor : ).

His time is just as impressive though, I had worked turbos and a stock motor and he has stock turbos and worked motor. Mine was so long ago now though, almost 8 years. I have no doubt he'll break into the tens and beat even my corrected time. People know a lot more about the cars and a lot more is out for them now. I didn't think the stock axles would have held up to anything more than the 1.62 60's I was running on M & H's.

Here's the really sad part. I was moving my car two nights ago on casters to make room for a friends twin turbo grand national I'm letting him store and what did I discover? I've got f'ing mold growning on my dash, seats and carpet. That is so sad. I'm going to have to flood my engine with oil and pray the side seals etc. aren't stuck. Would be really lame to throw away ianetti seals.

Anyway good luck on your 10's man. I'm sure you'll make it no problem.

Well the good news is all the mold basically wiped right off and it got me so disgusted with leaving the poor car untouched for so long I decided to put it together now, all the mold wiped right off although a damn mouse was making a nest in the glove box and chewed through my serial cable for my Motec. Anyone else using a Motec in a 3rd gen anymore? Seems like everyone is using those PFC's.

Kevin-If you want a PFC that bad maybe I'll trade it for your Motec lol j/k BTW - I bought my 95 3 years ago from a guy there in Minneapolis, it only had 3900 miles in it and the guys name was Mike. Just noticed where you were from and felt like mentioning that for some reason haha

John - Your car is running so awsome!!! Why the hell cant you hold boost pressure? What IC are you running? Maybe your IC has pretty high pressure drop

Congrats on that 11.08!!! I wish I had the money to upgrade to a TII diff and some better axles so I could try to nail 10's. But I just got done building a house and wont be spending any money any time soon lol

Later,
STEPHEN

Well, I haven't been able to maintain dialed boost since the motor was ported.....no matter what I do.
I use the HKS EVC4 and even set up an external wastegate and yet it still dropped...

I'm using the Greddy 3-row....probably the best FM out there.

I think the turbos simply can't keep up with the ported motor.

car has trapped 125mph quite a few times already and ~99.5mph in the 1/8th.....just a matter of time.

Not here to break anyone's records simply doing it for myself......
damn !!! already have a single, manifold and wg for it.............just being stubborn!!!

Thanks

I kinda know the feeling. Since the runs in 96 or 97 I've gone from a stock motor to bridge port, modified stock turbos to a custom inconnel manifold with two ball bearing 60-1's with T3 exhausts, a motec, big SX fuel system with -10 feed lines and -8's to each rail with 4 850 cc and 2 1200 cc injectors and after a 2 year run around with turbonetics (they lost my turbo's) I finally got the rebuilt ones back but have yet to get the time and energy to put everything back together. The car has never even been dialed in with the new motor and turbo's. I'm still living off the feeling from when the motor was stock and I was racing it in 1997ish or when I work on other cars. Enjoy it man : )
