Anyone heard anything about the 5Zigen Twin Mode (Auto/Manual) Clutch System?

I noticed this on Takakaira.com

5 Zigen Twin Mode Clutch System

5Zigen releases the Twin Mode Clutch System aftermarket transmission upgrade that offers the best of both transmission worlds: manual & automatic! Such an interchangeability option in a vehicle is a luxury only offered on production models like Porsche's acclaimed Tiptronic, Alfa Romeo's superb Selespeed, and Mitsubishi's innovative INVECS II. This upgrade option provides a driver an automatic transmission mode while driving in heavy downtown traffic or in a traffic jam. It also allows the driver to switch to a manual transmission mode when driving in suburban town areas or when the driver is attacking the slopes & bends on challenging mountain & canyon roads.
The above is achieved by having an on/off switch on the shift ****. Depressing the switch turns the system on, and the transmission will act like a clutch-less shifter, where each push of the gear **** will raises a gear, and each pull of the gear **** will knock down a gear.
The switch on the gear **** is to activate an actuator connected to the transmission oil pressure line. Actuation is controlled by a motor which mechanically disengage the clutch. Such an action will convert the manual transmission state into a semi-automatic transmission state. The amount of adjustability for clutch cut-off is allowed by the actuating mechanism during the twin mode system's set-up.
The Twin Mode Clutch System comes with a computer-controlled pump that controls the clutch's oil pressure, and cables that are used to actuate the switching system. Control in semi-clutch state is made possible by activating the switch on the gear **** and letting the computer to control the actuation.
As a result, interchangeability between M/T & A/T is made possible by turning on the switch. Gear changes are made by turning of the switch. M/T & A/T are two different transmission systems but with the installation from this kit's computer controlled oil pressure pump to on & off the clutch system, the Twin Mode Clutch System becomes a reality. The computer works by reading driving parameters like vehicle speed, engine RPM, and accelerator, clutch, and brake pedals actuation. The ROM chip in the computer differs according to vehicle model.
For vehicles with twin & triple plate clutch systems, optional items (JPY 20,000) are required. Please enquire when placing orders
Anyone heard anything about this?
Would it really work, and would it hurt the car or wear the clutch faster?
Reminds me a little of a system they have for motorcycles. Uses compressed gas to handle the clutch when you shift.

I have a quick shift kit for my '00 GSXR 750, Techtronics from the UK. The system actually cuts the iginition system for a fraction that allows you to up shift w/o the clutch. Mind you, it only works on upshifts. You would need to use the clutch when down shifting.

The system from 5Zigen uses a complete actuation system. These types of system are VERY reliable. They are the same type of systems used on modern race cars. If i had the cash...I would definatly buy it.

SANTA PLEASE!!!!

Just gotta wait for everyone.
Your system reminds me of a thread in Haltech Forum

$1552 for it. Well thats nice and expensive. But I guess it may be worth it to some people who live in small hilly traffic and love their 7.

They only list the FD3S on their website, I wonder if it would work on any of the FC3S?

Isn't the TurboII and FD tranny exact same except for 5th gear?
Or maybe just the gear ratios are the same.

Input shaft is about 2 inches longer... and you'd have to put the fc tailshaft case on the fd mission...

Question

I know, kicking an OLD thread up here, but was wondering if anybody knows anything of this setup/if it's still available anywhere. I'm disabled & if so, this could be my ticket into a manual..

I tried a bit of searching on it. The only stuff I came up with is from 2001 and 2002. I would imagine they droped it for one reason or another.

Thanks for lookin. Yeah, that's probably the same stuff I found. I did run into another guy in a wheelchair who had it on his WRX, who said yep, it's been completely discontinued at this point. He said if I dug around I miight be able to find a used setup somewhere, but I'm not holding my breath. The really cool stuff never lasts long engough!! (though I know, that was a loong time ago at this point, lol)
