any suggestions for slow upgrading?

i have 87 gxl n/a right now and wish to put a turbo on it and make upgrades able to drift and daily drive and couldn't really find too much on a suggestions list of order to not purchase parts twice to get speed now before i have money for a turbo and everything i will need to put it in vehicle(turbo that is)

actaully also wanted to know if it would be worthe my while to get a t2 motor tranny and ecu and throught it in there and start from there instead of building this one? would that be pointless because i will probably replace all the parts anyway or. . . ?
