97 trap speed, what ET w/ good driver?

So my car Gteched 97 mph in the quarter mile but only 15.5 ET. I launched at 3k and shifted kind of slow. What ET could a decent driver achieve with slicks and proper technique?

Thanx.

(This is a 2400lb streetported FC NA with stock exhaust - soon to be changed.)

Note that G-Tech will give different results than an actual dragstrip in two ways: Dragstrips don't start timing until your front tires clear the final staging beam (about 8 or so inches, depending on how deep or shallow you stage) and dragstrips measure speed over the final 66 (IIRC) feet, so the trap speed is an AVERAGE of you speed over those final feet. The G-Tech starts as soon as you start moving, and it measures trap speed as the instantaneous speed as you cross 1320 feet.

What this means, is generally the G-Tech will record slower ETs (no head start) and faster MPH.

So let's say you car accelerated from 96 to 97mph in that final 66 feet, just as a number. Trap speed of 96.5mph with a 2600lb vehicle equates to 182hp at the crank. Backtracking this to ET nets about 14.1-14.2.

The only way to know, of course, is to actually go to a dragstrip. Math is one thing but math is only as good as the data you feed it. The data in this case is faulty for two reasons - first, G-Techs are inaccurate for the reasons I described above, and second, cars don't drive themselves. The question isn't "how fast is the car" but "how fast can the driver go with that car".

Next week I'll be at an actual 1/4 mile strip with my header installed, and wider tires. The 3k launches were with clutch feathering and the tires starting to spin.

GTech usually runs about 3mph faster than a 1/4-mile run, so it's more likely to be 94mph traps.

You might be able to pull out a 15-flat with mid 90mph traps.

When you launch the car at the track, it will be totaly different than the street. Almost seems slicker. Unless they just finished spraying VHT. I'm realy trying to be there on saterday with my FD. If not, maybe we could run my Rx-8 vs your FC. (We need a video of this!) CJ

Bring it! I know that you're better than all those northwest posers who postwhore like mad but can't show up to any kind of sanctioned event.

I'll be out there Saturday with a header installed (finally), so if I can learn how to drive, maybe I could snag some mid 14's. The stock exhaust is choking my streetported engine.

That seems about right. I doubt there is more than half a second to be extracted from my driving technique with the car's current setup, at least not on all weather street tires. Dumping the clutch at 6k rpm without any real wheel spin (running slicks for ex.) could catch another half a second probably, but I need this driveline to get to work with in the morning.
