83 gsl dyno run

I got a chance to put my 83 RX on the dyno in my mechanics class. Ive got a racing beat Header and exhaust, and a K@N filter and it laid down 92 HP @7000 rpm. The dyno can only read at 30, 50, and 80 MPH so I couldn't see what it had at 6000rpm, But it had 65HP at 4500rpm in third gear (50MPH). It was pretty cool though because my friend just put down a sad 106HP in his 79 350 Camero (which is around what most V8's put down) and another guy spun 97hp in his 91 3.1L V6 Cavelier.

why such low hp's?
dont gsl-se come stock with 135hp?
plus headers and exhaust add like 20?
should be like 150 at least!

My car is an 83 with a 12A rated at 100hp @ 6000 rpm at the crank. Id guess a stock 12A would put down 70hp at the wheels so the exhaust and filter must have helped quite a bit. It should have at least 120hp at the crank now and possibly 130.

That is not exactly hwo it works. You need to conside:

- Drivetrain loss
- Engine wear
- etc

he said he had an 83 gsl, not a gsl-se. the gsl-se was only available in 84-5 and it was the only 1st gen to get the 135hp 13B stock. Plus, flywheel hp is rated a little higher than rwhp due to drivetrain loss. Rough guess would be ~20% drivetrain loss and the hp reading at 7000rpm is probably past peak.

A 120hp crank hp estimate would be a fair guess for his car.

92 HP is not too shabby! Good to hear some dyno results, you happen to have a scan of the dyno sheet?
And that is just with a filter and header.
