390 or 650???

In the next few months I will be putting together a 13B street ported with a 7" Camden SC. They recomend to use a 390cfm carb, I just wonder why and also if I can use a 650cfm. NE1 out there with any experience on this? I need to get the carb, so any input will be appreciated. I think it will work with the 650 but will like to hear from more experienced people. TIA, Dave.

I bought a 390 Holley for a Buick V6 about 20 years ago and it cost three times as much as a 600 single pumper. I've seen 600's used on 12a's NA. PM rexrecycle see what he used. He had an Eaton SC off of one of those Thunderbird SC's from about 1990 and slapped it on a 12a. I think he used a Holley TB injection set-up that flowed like a 600 or so. This was about 10 years ago though. If the 600 doesn't work there is a bigger resale market for it.

The original engine that we supercarged was a stock 12a. We tried all kinds of carbs on it from a stock nikki to different holleys. the last carb we had on it (before it blew up) was a holley 750 double pumper sguare bore not a Q jet The S.C. was a Eaton from a Ford Supercoupe overdriven for about 10 pounds of boost = BE ADVISED = Ignition timing becomes EXTREMELY important on a SC motor we were bumping the timing when the engine expired. Hope this helps, Rex

Thanks for the reply guys. I have been in Afghanistan for the last 2 years and as soon as I get home will put this thing together. So the best choice will be a 650cfm, if I could convert this thing to FI, that's what I'll do, but I have no experience with this. 84stock, you doubt me, if you send me your e-mail, I will send you pictures of what I got, I just do not know how to post them here. Just because YOU can't or are unable to do something does not means that somebody else can,,,,,
