13BRE cosmo intake on 13B REW engine.
I know what is involved in swapping them out already , I am getting my hands on the Cosmo manifold and I am thinking about swapping it in ,I just want to know if anyone has done this mod sucessfully ?, were there any differences at all or is the swap a waste of time ?.

This is funny because I'm about to do the same with my car. According to crispeed the intake gives a much wider power band especialy in the higher rpm end of the band. Chris said it's good for about 20 to 30 rwhp over the FD's intake. I was also told the FD's throttle body will bolt on but you got to fill in an opening that the FD's TB don't cover on the bottom of the RE's intake. Chris said he would just epoxy the hole left open. In stock form the intake ports are actualy the same size as the FD's. Remember the stock FD's intake manifold ports are a little smaller than the actual port on the motor. If you were to port the RE intake to the actual RE motor's intake ports then they would be to large for the ports on the FD's motor.
If I were you I would dyno the car with the FD's intake to see the actual change. You never know if your combination might prefer the stock intake.
At least I have a base line on mines so I could compare the differences.

I also happened to come across the 20b's throttle body in the same deal !! , I agree it would be ideal if I could dyno both , but the way I am set up , its a PITA to change out the intakes whilst the motor is in the car , so I would much rather do it whilst the motor is out for the oil seal change out .

I'm not ashamed to admit there's a large aesthetic component to my motivation to do so, the FC UIM just looks *****...

Yes it should because the FD intake fits on the series 5 without any problems , and the COSMO LIM is quite similar except for the larger openings.

Also the FD's UIM is not a direct bolt on to the FC's LIM. You got to do a lot of port matching and re-drill the mounting holes.
The port runners are in a different location to any other Mazda intake manifolds. Even if you were to make an adapter, the port alignment would be very bad. The UIM can't even be mated to the FD's LIM.
The RE intake is in a world of it's own!
